my three piece funk band, Renewal is having trouble with our bassist. were a little confused as to what actually should the bass play to certain funk riffs and chords. please and tab examples are much much much much muchh appreciated.

Being in the same key helps alot

And slapping and popping gives a very funky sound when done right and used at the right times

the bass should play what he feels like playing. funk is all feeling. but some techniques that help are staccato notes, scratches, and slapping. i find minor pentatonics a good scale to play on, its a good scale for anything haha.

Slapping is used a lot, but I love what the guy in Tower of Power does, listen to a few of their songs like What is Hip and you can probly pick up on his style.
