okay, so this guy wants me to play at a coffehouse thing for him. It's on the 22nd of this month. My problem is, my time slot is 2 and a half hours... and that seems like a lot for me. Of course, I'll be allowed to have breaks, but still...

So I've been working on a set list, but I dont have near enought stuff to fill up the time. This coffeehouse is for a youth group, so its not quite the cafe setting. With content, they dont really care, as long as its generally tasteful. I prefer to play classic rock/bluesier stuff, but I'll play most anything

This is what I have so far (oh, and this is singing and acoustic guitar):

"We're Going to Be Friends" - The White Stripes
"Knockin' on Heaven's Door" - Bob Dylan
"Space Oddity" - David Bowie
An original
"Simple Man" - Lynyrd Skynyrd
An original
"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" - The Beatles
An original
"Sunday Bloody Sunday" - U2
An original
"Wish You Were Here" - Pink Floyd
"Patience" - Guns N' Roses
"It's a Long Way to the Top" - AC/DC

so any help on what else to play?

if you have a backing band, a traditonal zep tune would be cool such as dazed and confused, whole lotta love, or stairway to heaven

"I'll be there for you" by The Rembrandts.

It's the song from "Friends."

You just don't cover that song.

I dont THINK I'll have a backing band... I can twist the arm of the guy who's running it and maybe get one... but right now at least, its just me and my guitar...

And I was thinkin of some Zep, but I don't wanna do Stairway... I have a decently strong disdain for it... (overplayed, overrated, in my mind)

[EDIT]: Thanks for the suggestions so far, guys, they've been great

I've always liked a performer who was capable of spinning the occaisional yarn whilst on stage.

Do you have any funny/entertaining stories you could tell?

And since you asked I'll throw out some songs too.

Sweet Jane - Velvet Underground
Alternative Ulster - Stiff Little Fingers
Brian Wilson - Barenaked Ladies
Get me - Dinosaur Jr. (If you can play a sweet solo.)
Stepping Stone - G. Love (Can you play harmonica?)
Sam Hall - Johnny Cash (It's not a proper acoustic set w/o the man in black)

That's variety right there.

^ sadly, I have been tryin to learn harmonica, and suck terribly at it...

oh, and I will spend time chattin with the folks there of course, and combined with breaks that should take out a good chunk of the time... but still...

THE STROKES. They eat that stuff up at coffee houses, trust me. Someday, Last Nite, Reptilia, and The End Has No End are prime choices.

Red Hot Chili Peppers are good too. You could try Coffee Shop to be ironic, but Scar Tissue and Under the Bridge are more appropriate. If they're looking bored you could even pull Can't Stop.

Old school improvised rock will also be well recieved.

is there anybody out there by pinkflyod can kill some time and it's pretty easy to drag it on for some extra time oh and the battle of evermore by zeppelin if you can get the backing for it

There was once a list someone posted, like "The Ultimate coffeehouse set list" or something like that... Just a bunch of acoustic songs that everyone knows.

My advice? Lay off the originals and unknown tracks. I mean seriously, do you think they want to hear a guy up there playing all these songs they've never heard in their lives?

All Along The Watchtower - Bob Dylan
Tears In Heaven - Eric Clapton
The Needle & The Damage Done - Neil Young
Rocking In The Free World - Neil Young
Working Class Hero - John Lennon
Pigs On The Wing Part 1 & 2 - Pink Floyd (maybe open the set with part one, close with part two?)

All badass songs that sound great acoustic, and maybe you could do some Robert Johnson or Woodie Guthrie.

Yeah... I've been a tad confused as to where this would go ever since the Bandleading forum was made, so my apologies.

Corona by the Minutemen (The Jackass theme). I've always thought it would sound awesome acoustic.

Chicks dig any Beatles tune, like "And I Love Her" or "If I Fell" although, it sounds better when you have the harmony part. Others are "Ticket to Ride", "Something" (chicks definitely dig that), and "Here Comes the Sun".

That's just a few.

Play a Sublime song (Santeria or What I Got are my favorites). I don't really like "Long Way to the Top" as a closer but that's up to you. Tell stories about your originals and the covers that mean something to you. I always like that in an acoustic soloist.

Oh, play "I Burn Today" by Frank Black. He played that acoustic on the Rollins Show and it was great.

I don't feel like reading the whole thread, but Blister in the Sun by the Violent Femmes.

Really, everyone knows that song. They'll be clapping along in no time.

^ Yeah, a lot of people love it, and those who dont already know it from the White Stripes will recognize it from Napoleon Dynamite (which I hated).
