Hi, i'm looking to buy a new guitar. I went to guitar center today and tried a ton of different guitars(which sucks since i played them all through mesa boogies (((( which sound nothing like my stuff :P). ANyways, i really want to get a Les Paul honestly. I love the design and sound. My only compliant is i have read taht Epiphone pickups are subpar and the problems with their wood not being all mahagony. So here is the LP's i have narrowed down too:
Standard: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epiphone-Les-Paul-Standard-Electric-Guitar?sku=518341
Quilt Top: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epiphone-Les-Paul-Classic-Quilt-Top?sku=518353
Ultra: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epiphone-Les-Paul-Ultra-Electric-Guitar?sku=518770

I played all of them but the ultra today. I also really liked this guitar from Parker:http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Parker-P42-Electric-Guitar?sku=511294

I just cant decide on which to get. I like all the lp's, but i keep reading all these conflicting things about which one is better. The parker feels so comfortable, but i don't know much about the company other than they make high end guitars. Can you tell me which guitar would be a better deal?

Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain Top. All mahogany body with a plain maple top. Same looks as the standard.
My Gear:

Do you think the Ultra's pickups are better than the plain top? Or if i got the plain top should i spend the extra cash and get some better pickups?

They're the same pickups. I would recommend that you play it a while first, then decide if you want new pups. (You probably will).

I'd say go with the plain top and a really nice set of pickups.

Yes, but it's also not the true LP shape. It has the carved out back contour and isn't it thinner as well?

I'm personally going for the plain top.

I have a quick question about the plain top LP. Is its body not sculpted? If so, does this mess with the comfortability of the guitar?

you mean carved. i think it wouldnt although i got a nasty rash on my forearm playing with a tele but that was more from the edges. about the carved top it wont mess with the comfortability of it
