hey, i have just finished my first pedal, and it works.

now i want to take it to the next level, but there are a few things i don't understand

in black are the things i don't understand:

what is the drain, source, gate thing? also, the triangle shaped thing at the top, what is that? is the second one (a bit more on the right) connect the same way, as in ground and +9V? or do they just not connect to anything? and finally, at the bottom left. it say 5.1V 1N751, and i was wondering what that was.

also, what does 100R and 1 MEG mean?

are the underlined words (tone, colume, and drive) where the pots connect to? if so what pots do i need? and how would i connect the in and out jacks? simple mono jacks?

wow, if anyone can answer all that, they deserve a cookie

anyways, thanks all

If it says ground, then you connect that part to the ground. likewise if it says 9v, you should wire that terminal to the +9v power supply. They just write this so they don't have to draw all the wires. R is often used to replace the OHM symbol, so 100R means a 100ohm resistor. 1 MEG means 1megaohm, or 1x10^6 ohms. The underlined words are the names of the pots shown in the diagram, adn the value of the pot is right below. Try and find some sites that explain wiring schematics, that should help you to figure everything else out

okay, so the TONE pot is a 22K pot right? and so LEVEL 10K and DRIVE 1 MEG right?

last time i was at the store, they asked if i needed logarythmic or linear pots. in this case which would i need?

thanks

For the volume and drive pots, logarithmic (also known as audio taper) pots should be the way to go. Use linear for the tone pot

what kind of capacitors ami looking for?

like, on smallbearelec.com when i get to 1 microfarad, it asks if i was 68V or 100V. and i don't know what to buy. also, 100 mF and 47mF is like way over the limit. since smallbear is like, made for effect pedals, am i looking at the right capacitors?

The 2 things you circled in the middle are transistors.
You are looking in the right place

The drain source and gate are just labels for the pins on FET's (kinda like the B, C, and E for BJTs, Base, Collector, Emitter), they're just another type of transistor.

The triangle shaped thing is an OpAmp (operational amplifier). They're pretty versatile, and are typically used for various amplification/phase uses.

The diode with the little edges is a zener diode
They're basically just like regular diodes, but operate in the active region with a negative voltage.

As far as connecting the pots go, connect the left and right lug's to the ends of the "resistor" and connect the middle lug to the arrow pointing to the resistor. (I hope that's descriptive enough)

That's the transistor you want

These are the opamp's you'll need (i think). Looks like you'll need 2 of them.

These are the zener diodes you need. I couldn't find the diodes on small bear, but I've ordered from futurlec before, and they seem alright enough.
