Ok, there was a thread (maybe two) here on Mastodon. I searched and it was gone. For one, Mastodon IS Metal. Progressive Sludge to be correct. I'm not sure if members thinking they are Hardcore is the reason it was close, but anyways, I like them. I have Leviathan and I find it original in someways, plus refrashing IMO. Anyone else like Mastodon? Anyone picked up Call of the Mastodon? If so, how is it like?

Dude, rename this, you can't have a "Mastodon Thread", just call it Mastodon, or else everyone will all be like "OMG NO BAND ONLY THREADS" and all that

And Mastodon owns, I have all their stuff, absolutely love them. "Seabeast", "Iron Tusk" and "March of the Fire Ants" is where its at.
#3
I like them as well, but I haven't heard too much from "Call Of The Mastodon."

My favourite songs are "Blood And Thunder" and "March Of The Fire Ants."
you tell me who's better. i think good charlote are better than the bealtes but that's only because their lyrics mean more and they are better musicians.

I like Mastodon... I'd say they have some thrash influence as well.. But with Prog Sludge... You nailed it... At least in my opinion. Hahaha. Their newest album (with all the older stuff) was great.

I was supposed to check these guys out ages ago but never got around to it...

I've only seen a video of them

Whats a good first album to get?

I'd go with Leviathan. Every song is great, nice variety too. Though Remission is really great too.

Hearts Alive and March of the Fire Ants Own me.

Yeah, I like em a lot, they don't get that much credit on this forum though.

Eh never really caught my attention. Solid but they just don't have that extra little thing to catch my interest. For fans of them though check out High On Fire (pretty similar sound IMO)

I say either under-rated or not listened to enough. My faves are Iron Tusk, March Of Fire Ants and Elephant Man, save the minute or so of silence.

They're really great songwriters, which is something that a lot of DM/BM bands lack. They can do a lot with a little.

Seen them twice, three times when June 16 comes . I agree that they are really solid songwriters. A great band for kids to listen to when going from mainstream, accessable metal to the underground, heavier stuff IMO.

I love Mastodon, but I can't find Remission anywhere.

Are they worth seeing live?

Yes. Though their gigs seem to have ever-increasing numbers of 'hardcore' kids. So watch those flailing arms in the pit.

And the always start with Hearts Alive...

These guys are fucking good, and I love sludge metal. I have Leviathan but only a few songs off of Remission. I haven't heard Call of the Mastodon, though. I looked it up on metal-archives and it says it's just a re-release of the 1st demo with Troy and Brent on vocals instead of original vocalist Eric Saner.

No man, its a re-release of the Lifesblood EP, plus a bunch of old songs. They're pretty rough around the edges, and pretty short (though whole thing is about a half hour) but its good, I can upload it on HP if you want.

i like mastadon they are pretty good, saw them at ozzfest, but it was just weird seeing jada pinket smith headbanging to there ****... gonna see em again for the unholy alliance tour, but im going pretty much just to see slayer

i've seen them live. they opened for slayer and i went apes'hit, more because of the atmosphere than actually digging the music. plus it was just so loud, it is hard not to get into it.

over-rated, but by no means terrible. not my thang
