So great. I'm into the sludgy atmospheric post rock/punk stuff these days (whatever you want to call it). Neurosis, Pelican and Cult Of Luna as well, but this is on ISIS... They are good... Really good. I have their discography and Panopticon and Oceanic are some wicked awsome albums. Any opinions?
#3
Yeah, Isis is a great band, along with all the ones you mentioned. Just really atmospheric stuff that doesn't get boring. Oceanic is an awesome album, "False Light" is an excellent song.
#4
When your songs are an hour long it's hard for it to get boring. Hahaha. Well.. Thats stretching it... But... :P
#7
if you took the vocals out of that, and blindfolded me, i'd say it was opeth :P.

I got Oceanic a while back. I feel like I'm missing something because I don't see what you guys are talkin about. I'm not too keen on the vocals. I'm more into riff-based sludge anyway (Iron Monkey/Eyehategod kind of stuff)

But yeah I'll give it a few more listens just because I love you all so much.

Always prefered Neurosis and Pelican over Isis to be honest, but all three are damn good.

The Red Sea EP is well worth getting hold of, seems a thousand years from Panopticon.

Dirty boy Aaron Turner.

The PigDestroyer split is pretty good too.
Enjoy your worries, you may never have them again.

Oh, I've found this Full Isis concert last night, if you are interested.

Thanks for this!

I love me some Isis. As cliche as it sounds, the best time to listen to them is at night with your door closed and lights turned off. Really atmospheric and they have that underwater feel to them.

Upon another listen, Isis are pretty good very atmospheric and moody which I liked. Still not digging the vocals though.

Isis are pretty awesome, although I agree with the general consensus that Neurosis is better. I am a bit of a Neurosis freak...
Don't be derivative. Explore...

I just think they are straight boring. Vocals are boring, guitar is boring, and songs are too long.

... Isis are post-hardocre... ?

some kind of blend of post-rock (Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, Godspeed You Black Emperor) mixed in with a bunch of heavier stuff.

edit
haha, I see some people have gone and invented a new gerne for them and other similiar bands: post-metal

hell yes,.. the water feeling is particularly apparent on oceanic (duh!),.. but it really feels as if a massive ocean controls you,.. Carry would be my favourite off that album. They have a really dark vibe to their music too.

While I like Isis, I don't believe they are metal...but nonetheless their a decent band.

I've seen a bunch of people complaining that the new album (not out till October) sucks. How? I personally think its great, its typical Isis (in a good way) and they continue to lead the new genre that is atmospheric sludge (if you ask me) Probably better then Panopticion. Anyone heard the leaked album, what do you think?
#34

...no offense but have you ever heard Opeth?

Isis is awesome, the more I listen to Panopticon the better it gets.

Turns out I'm not seeing them supporting Tool since

a) I'm not going to see Tool again
b) Mastodon are supporting them where I live.
