I saw them when they opened for Tool in September, they're pretty cool sounding band. Might actually buy some of their stuff in the future.

what's the point in being "philiosophical"?

Interesting question...

definitely man,.. Oceanic is the best one to start with I think, it is sort of a bridging album between the older style and the newer style of their music. It's ambient in parts, but heavy in other parts. Though I daresay you can't go wrong with most of their releases.

I'm looking forward to them very much, especially after seeing "Clearing Up The Eye" dvd, their performance on that was hypnotic

I've been thinking of buying some Metal DVDs sometime. I just might check that one out.

good value for money - it's a bunch of new and old performances in the US (mostly particular songs), and a whole concert from when they came out to Aus in 2005, a photo gallery and couple of other bits and pieces. Art direction is pretty sweet as well.

I've been getting into Isis alot lately. I'm probably gonna get Celestial or Panicoption, but I've heard alot of good things about Oceanic too.
#92
yeah,.. Oceanic is their best IMO, I think it captures the essence of all that Isis can do - it has the beginning of the ambience of Panopticon, but retains the really dark undertones and a lot of the heavyness of Celestial,.. that said though, even though I'd recommend that album to start with, you can't really go wrong with any album of theirs

I bought Oceanic on Tuesday. Must say .........i really wasnt expecting much, but damn i love this album!!! I just love how if i want some heaviness i can listen to this full album, as well as if i wanna just chill out and relax i can listen to this album as well. I also reckon how the albums revolves around Water is pretty cool as well.

yeah, they had it come out a few months ago. Tbh, not my favourite release by them. Maybe I haven't given it enough time, or maybe I still have a Red Sparowes hangover, but it doesn't quite do it for me. I'll have to give it more listens though

umm,.. sort of half-half. The Red Sea is excellent, probably their heaviest release. SGNL 05 is pretty good too, it's kind of part of Celestial album, so it relates in that way. Mosquito didn't make as much of an impression for me, but it's still pretty decent

Also, at one store in sydney, i saw 3 different covers titled Oceanic (all looked different) and ranged in different prices, what the differences??? (cause none of em had song titles on the back!) and which one is their heaviest album you reckon??

umm as far as their heaviest release goes, The Red Sea and Celestial are easily in the ballpark. Isis pretty much started heavy and got lighter and more post-rock as they went on.

I'm not sure if there are different versions of Oceanic, but one is the normal album, and the other one is "remixes and reinterpretations". The original album contains 9 tracks and has a green cover that looks like it has sprays of water on it, and Remixes comes as a two-disc edition, I think it's a white paper cover and contains interpretations of songs by diff people (obviously lol).

I was playing along with Backlit and In fiction last night on bass, and i worked it all out apart from the tuning, some notes i couldnt make coz it would need to be tuned down more. I had to step down, drop C tuning.
Can anyone help? Are they two steps down?

I'm pretty sure Jeff Caxide is tuned BF#BE.

Anyways, Isis are great. I have Oceanic and it's amazing... although I do prefer Neurosis and Cult of Luna only because I sometimes do not have the patience to listen to Isis for the heavier parts.
#105
Panicoption and Oceanic are both amazing albums. I found In The Absence of Truth to be very good.

Hey Tony, guess what? I"m seeing them on Sunday.

Anyway, I found In The Absense of Truth harder to get into for whatever reason. It took me ages to actually find the "entry point" to it, if you will. Nonetheless, the album is really good, it has excellent melodies and explores the ambient side of Isis more than any other album in their discography. I think though that they are starting to veer towards Red Sparowes territory, at which point I'd pull out my RS albums and just listen to them.

lol they didn't play anything off Celestial or earlier, but the show still owned. Isis are godly live, the only problem is the power went out just before the opening band finished, so isis went on late. Still, amazing set, sounded better live than on the album

wow, i started listening to tool which got me into isis and now look what else haha. brilliant stuff.
#118
heh. Definitely get Oceanic and Celestial,.. in either order really, though you may like Oceanic more. It's the best of all worlds Isis
