im building a custom guitar and i want to scallop the frets from 12-24.

i have tried with a round file on the 24th fret but after about half an hour it didnt do much. Is there a better, faster and easier way to do it?

Dremel. Sand bit.

Step one: Tape over the frets, then take a razor to cut it out perfect.
Step two: Hook up a shop vac so all that dust dosnt fly in ur face.
Step three: Be careful how deep you go
Step four: Be very careful as to how deep you go
Step five: while dremeling, be careful you dont go too deep.
Step six: sand off the sides to get rid of the sharp edge.
Step seven: sand lightly being careful as to how deep you go, and get it nice and smooth
Step eight: look at it and wonder how the hell you got down that deep
Step nine: take a sharpie to the parts where the white wood shines through.
Step ten: end up throwing out the neck because ur embarrassed as to how deep you went.

I did do a Yingve neck once tho...

As long as ur nice and careful, and dont turn the dremel up too high, you should be fine. Its all about patience, the one thing you DONT wanna do, is get fed up with how long its taking and crank up the dremel. If you do it right, its a blast to play. All in all, I would actually say its worth it to give it a shot, if this isnt your only guitar.

Press the file harder or get a file with more bite. If you filed for a half hour and didn't get much.. you're a wuss.

**** me mate, You went far too ****ing deep.

I did a Malmsteen neck Myself, and it's only recessed enough to keep the finger off the fretboard...

I did it with a round file... Follow theProject Guitar
tutorial.

Those guys know their stuff.

Round file is the best way to go... More control of depth of scallops and shaping of such.
