what would I gain?

I'm thinking of replacing the bridge pickup of my Std. Stratocaster with a humbucker, like a Hot Rails..

what would I be losing? what would I be gainin? as far as types of sounds/tones etc..

also.. how hard/time consuming would it be to swap the pickups? Like if I wanted to switch back and forth

Uhh. . .

Taking off strings - 1 minute
Unscrewing pickguard - 2 minutes
Unsoldering pickup - 5 minutes? Depends how good you are.
Soldering pickup - 5 minutes?
Screwing. . .
Stringing. . .

Shouldn't be too hard if you've got half a brain.

As far as versatility, a humbucker would really help with the more rock-esque stuff.

I installed two double (single) Duncans in my Peavey Tracer... They are neat pups. However, I only use the Duncan Distortion in the bridge.... I'm thinking of pulling them to sell.

Not sure yet. You see them on ebay all the time.

So there's only really a few solder joints to undo/redo? will the integrity of it ever degrade after a while?

you have to be carefull soldiering the pots.... if you get them too hot, it'll burn the grease out of them and they'll be ruined.

don't think thats true ^

You'll lose ALOT of your high tones and, if you have semi-decent pups, alot of articulation.
You'll GAIN, a higher output, deeper tone with much more mids, less buzz.
