Batteries are by no means better...

I've used random 9v adaptors and had no problems so I think your ok.

cheap £5 multivolt adaptors which have crap shielding litter the sound with noise. however, if you pay out of the ass for £20 manufacturers recommended ones, theyre fine.

u can also use a 1-spot. it runs about 6 pedals for $30. no hum.

as long as u match up volts and polarity ur fine with a cheap adapter, but u can get hum like said.
