what effect is it that most 80's metal bands use with their cleans? def leppard, poison, etc. i cant figure it out.

Probably a phaser pedal. Look into something like an MXR Phase 90, or listen to soundclips of it.

i think it just might be the pickup that i have, the def leppard cleans sounds alot more brighter. but hey ill try the phaser.
