Whew, it's been a while since I've posted here.

You can listen to the song here:

I'm pretty proud of it. I wrote it about my ex-girlfriend, mixing my nostalgia with a letter she wrote me.

Not too long ago you and I
Swore we'd both grow old and never die,
Swore we'd live alone, just you and I,
Now you've sprouted wings and taken flight.
Not too long ago you and I
Ran away from home a little while,
Walked a moonlit road, just you and I,
Walked a moonlit road, Catherine the Rye.

Not too long ago you and I
Stood around a fire one autumn night,
Wished upon a star, and every night
Thought about the glow of fireflies.
Not too long ago you and I
Dreamt about the wings of butterflies,
And how they really should be flutterbyes,
And how they beautifully do flutter by.
But this is just a lie.

And I can get myself out alive,
And I can learn how to survive
Without the love you gave
Cause I am still the same
And you are still the same.

Not too long ago you and I
Walked and danced and loved and finally died
Like the dawn is just a newborn light,
A burning rose that kindles then ignites.
Not too long ago you and I
Experienced something that could never die.
We went to Mexico, you and I.
You gave your heart a home and murdered mine.

And I can get myself out alive,
And I can learn how to survive
Without the love you gave
Cause I am still the same
And you are still the same.

You and I yesterday learned to fly and flew away.
You and I yesterday learned to fly and flew away.
You and I yesteryear learned to cry and planted tears.
You and I yesteryear learned to cry and planted tears.

You and I were the unsaid leaders.
We led the way with wheelbarrows of gold.
We'd run away and steal food from birdfeeders,
And hope that we would never grow too old.

We built bonfires with gasoline,
And the flames, they licked the wood real clean,
And the blankets we were wrapped in kept us warm.

We built bonfires inside our hearts,
But the flames, they licked and tore apart
All the blankets that we used to keep us warm.

We built bonfires inside of bombs,
And our hearts exploded when the songs
We sang turned all the gasoline to rain.

This icy land is freezing all my bones,
And the flames aren't coming sometime soon,
And the flames, they're not here, gasoline or none.

We built bonfires inside of cars,
But the burning cars refused to start,
And we need flames to help us face the storm.
