Epiphone Les Paul standards plain-top. This is the best epiphone you can get for under 800 dollars, and it only costs 400.

I say spend most of the money on a decent guitar and buy a crappy amp, then once in a while let him play on your amp or find someone with a good amp.

Its nice being able to sound good!

I find with the starter kits and spreading the money too much you are gonna sound crappy no matter what.

Might as well buy a guitar that wont end up in the trash at any point.

Get the GRX40 starter guitar, I think you can get it for $250 on musiciansfriend. That was my first guitar, and it is still awesome!

amp is where most of your sound comes from so get good amp and a beginner guitar

I can see where Police Chief is coming from.
300 isn't going to get you an amp you wont want to upgrade. So i'd just go with the good guitar and crap amp for starters.

listen to RideTheAnger, he is wise beyond his years.

A recent study shows that 92% of all teenagers have moved on to rap music. Put this in your profile if you are one of the 8% who stayed with the real music

Affinity Strat is awfull. Squier Standard strats are cool though.
I'd go for the epi maybe.
