400 grit?
that'll take forever. use a smaller grit to save time, then a larger grit to smooth it out.

no, u misenterpreted it, 400 to scuff it up and paint over the existing paint, u dont have to sand it all down unless you absoultely wanna, im no noob to building, check my build thread (see sig) i kno all about sanding, i have a whole explanation on how to sand
