Hello

I have been playing guitar now for around 6 months, like i imagine most people also do i just wanna get faster. I play a variety of things from the likes of Green Day and as random as this sounds i even have learnt a Bach solo. I am a open player and like music of all types. My problem is as though i imagine i am around average for my length of playing i just wanna get faster. The faster i get the more i will want to play and the more fun i will have. What i would like is some help / advice / tips on how i can increase my speed i am willing to work hard and so far all i have ever been told with regards to increasing my speed is spider exercises. I would like any more tips and advice to take on board and improve me as a player.

Thanks a lot

Joe
(p.s. just realised how fooking long i went on for there sorry)

As mundane as it might sound practice your scales to a metronomem starting really slow (around 100 bpm) with one note falling on each click then double it (still keeping it on 100 bpm but making every other note in the scale fall in time with the click.) Keep speeding up until you start messing up and then slow it down again. Learn various shredding techniques, i.e. sweep picking, legato runs, arpeggios, etc.

wanna improve your speed? Do chromatics for 5 minutes straight at a comfortable speed. It's gonna be boring as hell, but I just watch porn while I do that and set a timer.

Just play lots of solos (actual solos, not greenday style (an ovtave higher on one string))
Improvise, know your guitar and you will just naturally increase in speed.

But DONT forget about rythm guitar, If you can't do that, yer not worth sh*t.

Play 0-1-2-3-4 on each string apart from the G string ( then it's 0-1-2-3 ) using alternate picking. That's a chromatic exercise. It's just a scale.

You will naturally get faster as well, just be with your guitar and play it all the time, and soon when you apply yourself more in the aspect of speed, things will sort of fall into place

Also!! No one has mentioned that "Speed is a by-product of accuracy." It weird but once you learn something right, you just seem to play it faster you know? Hell, I dunno, I hope that helps some.
