People don't like Dave Mustaine because he created something that owned Metallica in just about every single aspect of thrash metal.

Strats are very versatile, you can't go wrong with them.

pretty much everything except super-heavy stuff.

Depends on the Strat. HSS Strat is good for pretty much anything, but some people don't like them (like me). Les Pauls are probably better in this case because I'm pretty sure every single band you mention uses Gibsons (I think ACDC is the only one that doesn't use a Les Paul, and they use SGs).
Current Rig:
Gibson Firebird Studio
Limited Edition Schecter 35th Anniversary C-1
Schecter Jeff Loomis Signature 7 FR
Ashdown Fallen Angel
Custom 7 Firebird from Ignition Custom Guitars (check them out)

Hey you look kind of like me.

Except for the sexy man goatee, and kickass shades. And sweet guitar.

I'm jealous.

I wouldn't buy a 2006 Gibson. I've been looking at them and playing a few lately and they down right crappy. You can probably get a great Epipgone for $600-$800.

dont buy a guitar because of what other people play. go in a store, try something, get experience, you;ll find something you like,

A fat strat has a humbucker in the bridge position. the regular strats have single coils.

dude a Les Paul is going to fit your musical preference way more than a strat. like that other guy said, i think every band u mentioned except AC/DC uses a Les Paul. What's your budget?

Give 10 UGers a rope and ask them to pull. 4 will push, 1 will ask for buttsecks, 2 will tell you get an Ibanez and the last 3 will start complaining about Line6 Spiders.
