I've been looking into a JCM 800 or 900 for a while now but what I want to know is what is the best 800 model. I know theres 4010, 2204 and stuff like that, and I hear some are better than others. I wanted to know if UG knew which was the best model

um, well the 2203 is the most famous marshall amp. its the model used in late JTMs ans the first JCM 800s.

i'm not sure the exact model names, but the jcm 900 dual reverb is my favorite 900. because of the 2 channels and reverb, and then the 2 channel jcm 800 combo.

The JCM900 4100 Dual Reverb/High Gain is what is acclaimed the "best" JCM900 model head and I've heard it compared to the JCM800 in terms of its tone. As for the 800, Derek nailed it. It's most famous for EVH's "Brown Sound".

EDIT:
There's also the JCM900 2500 SL-X Slash sig model. I think it's supposed to be based off of a Silver Jubilee and have a bit more gain than the regular JCM900.

Slash had customized/modded his old Marshall's and he wanted the marshall company to build him ~10 of them but instead they decided to build them with his name on it then market it as the Slash model. It is a very good amp.

^Also since Jubilees were discounted (and alot Slash's had been destroyed during riotes), he needed some more an asked MArshall to make him some and they decided it was smarter to produce them.

There's tons of different JCM 800 models, here's the ones I can think of off hand

2203 - 100 watt, single channel head (the one everyone loves pretty much)
2204 - 50 watt version of the 2203
2205 - 50 watt, 2 channel head
2210 - 100 watt, 2 channel head
4210 - 50 watt, 1x12 2 channel combo (the one I own)

And there's more, but I don't remember them

But yeah, the 2203 is the popular one, although the 2205/2210 are popular for as well for obvious reasons
- Gibson Flying V 120 #1 (White)
- Gibson Flying V 120 #2 (Cherry)
- Gibson SG Standard ('61 style)
- Jackson DK2M

- ENGL Fireball 60
- Avatar 4x12

- Many pedals, plus other stuff
