Wow that's great information. I dint know that the tubes were so bad for the environment.

Someone told me that the pros have their techs change tubes after a day's practise in their high-end tube amps! I dont know how far that is true. Imagine throwing away 5 tubes every day in the trash!!

Its not that they're really that bad for the enviroment unless you go and dumping out the waste from the manufacturing process directly into a lake or anything like that...
and there only are aren't even half a dozen large factories that are making tubes anyway....

And they change their strings every day, not their tubes

I used to change my strings after every gig. Which was usually once a week, sometimes twice.

But changing your tubes everyday?! Nah.

Hey Guys !

Check out this reply I got from Peavey customer support when I asked them how long the tubes on a valveking would last...

Hello SK,

Thanks for your inquiry.

The ValveKing has a fixed, non-adjustable bias. It does not require a
reset or adjustment when changing tubes. You can use any 6L6 tubes you
want to use.

Tubes vary in quality and construction so much that it is impossible to
predict exactly how long they will last.
Power amp tubes will have to be changed more often than preamp tubes.
My usual rule of thumb is, that if you play on a regular basis you will
probably have to change your power amp tubes every year or two. If you
are a professional or play every day, you will want to change them more
often than that. Some pro's change them weekly or even daily, but I
consider that a little extreme. If you only play the occasional
weekend,
you may get several years out of a good set of tubes.

The bottom line is, that you might get ten hours or ten years from a
new set of tubes. The best barometer to go by is your amp. If your amp
sounds weak or seems to be loosing it's punch and clarity, or if it
just
won't clean up as well as it should, it is probably time to change
power
amp tubes.
Preamp tubes can last for years, so I usually only change them if they
get noisy or microphonic.

A Peavey XXX and a Peavey 6505 have the same amount of gain. This is according to Peavey Customer service.

well they both have got 120W and they both only go to 10 if that counts

What I meant by "amount" is not if they've got 10 or 11, but how "metal" they can sound by diming the gain.

I have a valveking and even if I dime the gain, it can do at the most 80's sound and not modern metal sound like inflames for example. Its not a high-gain amp, period!

However, the XXX and the 6505 are high-gain amps and according to the customer service, they have the same amount of gain.

Some people in this thread say that the 6505 plus has less gain than the 6505.

Yes, but they both have about the same amount of usable gain anyways. The 5150 just stops getting usable past about 6, and the II at about 7.5. Which is a ****load of gain. I play death metal with the gain on my II at 6.5.

5150. I played an XXX the other day, the combo, I thought it really sucked.

The Legacy 2x12 is great I actually tried a 5150 II through one at GC (although this was ages ago.) Compared to the Mesa 2x12 which I've also tried, it seems more defined, although they're both similar (same speakers, same relative size and construction.) If you want massive low end = G-Flex.
