Everyday I red crap on this forum about how EMG cleans are crap, well you, just like everyone who thinks that way has either never owned a guitar with emgs, or played it at a guitar store through a hi-gain amp and complained about it. What you do to get AWESOME cleans on EMG's is...here it comes...omg....TURN THE VOLUME DOWN TO 6 OR 7! that gives you good cleans, any lower than that is even better, I play SImple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd through my amp with my guitars volume at 6 and it sounds damn near perfect so I do not understand why people complain about it. imo my 85 can get some of the best Jazz tones ive EVER heard, I have a Valvetronis so youmight say, well thats why. Well I play it through my small IBZ10 SS piece of crap amp and it has great cleans, peopleneed to learn what the volume knob is for on their guitars and USE THEM, oh yeah the amp thing to...HI GAIN MEANS NOT CLEAN, so turn down the gain on your amp and that will help too...thank you for your time

Here is my review of my EMG equipped guitar (81/85):

yeah I agree you can get some nice cleans out of them, but why the rant? People are less likely to acknowledge your opinion when it's filled with caps.

You're kidding right? Everyone says that EMGs have great cleans. I haven't heard anyone say that EMG cleans suck. Only that they can have amazing cleans. Hell, I've even heard of jazz players using them.

Who told you that EMG's suck for cleans?

Granted, they can do cleans well, but you aren't using them through a valve amp. The way they are designed means they overload an amp's preamp or whatever, which isn't happening on them solid state amps. They were designed for valve, and you aren't getting their best sound through solid state. I advise you to get a decent tube amp, and you will love the tone of those EMGs.

im probably gonna get banned for this but I want my KNOWLEDGE heard, look at any pickup topic and when soembody mentions EMG's they are automatically shunned because they dont ahve good cleans

Cleans are something that is all preference. Some think good cleans are a very thin/sterile sounding tone thats very bright and lacking in mids. This is what EMG's deliver and it is my opinion that they suck. Passives offer cleans that are warmer and with more depth, this is my ideal clean.

yes, but not to tell others that they have not so clean cleans, because they are about as crisp as ytou can get when you know how to use them

Nice guitar...I <3 Schecters.

It's all personal preference. For example, I like tone that's...well, good. I have two guitars I use for clean (one of which I use on clean ONLY) and a dedicated amp for clean. I also have a guitar for distortion as well as a dedicated amp for distortion.

The only good EMG pickups for clean are their SAs...they put out amazing, incredible clean tones. EMG humbuckers...not so much. Personally, I like traditional pickups for clean (say an old school PAF). Warmth is good...

^Amen. I'm not a fan. I kinda like EMG single coils, like the SA series, but other than that...

I mean hell, my DiMarzio X2N has better cleans than an EMG 81. And the X2N has pretty damned bad cleans.

Then again, that's just my opinion. Take it or leave, I don't care. And frankly, I don't care what you think about them?not many people here do. Tone and what sounds good/what doesn't is a matter of opinion, not fact. It doesn't take knowledge or education to give an opinion.

Hey guys! I just started playing electric guitar should I get a Gabson Lay Pall or a Femdor Startokaster. I like the picks on the gabsons but i like how sweet femdors look. Beforre i get a gabson what company makes them?

Personally, I don't like EMG clean tones. I find them to be too harsh and trebly. It's all about personal preference, man. Don't get pissed off when people don't agree with you.

have you ever tried them? turn down the treble on your amp a bit, that is not what i do, but it my help you. I know it matters what wood, I have mine in a mahogany guitar so it is different, but when people like ChruchNskate say stuff like that, it just aint true

THere's some aspect of a pickup you can't dial out simply by EQing it. I've played EMG equipped guitars on fender deluxes and it was absolute ass, despite the deluxe having an excellent clean channel. EMG's are really not worth their price in terms of true tonal versatility.

Okay I've had my beautiful Schecter C-1 Hellraiser FR and I love the EMG's to death, but for the clean....no. I have a VOX Valvetronix 50 watt so I canget any cleans I want out of that thing, but no matter houw low I turn the volume down on my EMG's (81/85) the will NOT clean up at all, the gain just thins up. Can some one tell my why, I don't hink I need a battery change, cause I just got it. I was lloking at putting in an EMG 60 in the neck position of my guitar to get good cleans, but I can't figure out why I can't get my emg's clean....

Remeber you saying that.....

And you have now made 6 threads about emgs.

That's kind of what the jazz tone is. Very lacking in mids, soft, almost like a nylon string guitar. Besides, Mark Knopfler uses them, he has great spangly cleans. The EMG 60 is awesome too.

yes i know but finish readintg that thread, I had trouble wit the cord input on my guitar so that is why it wasn't giving a correct signal to the amp, i finally looked at it, pushed it in and the cleans were fine, and yes i have made alot of EMG threads because I want to learn more about what I have.
#28
Alright then, but I still think that these types of thread making a statement and not asking a question should be closed.

are you trying to convince yourself that?

just kidding, its really all about personal preference. when you run any pickups through a modeling amp(like your vox) your gonna get a decent tone. i run a crappy strat copy through my vox and its passable. so really getting good cleans on a vox modeling amp really aint saying much.
