sorry. i had to.

i have a ibanez rg. the trem sucks more balls than *insert porn reference here* on a monday night. and i want to replace it.

now. i always loved the look of bigsbys. but the idea of a bigsby is stupid on a shred guitar. but keep in mind. i dont dive bomb. i occaisonaly do flutters and such but dive bombs to me are just stupid. so could i put a bigsby on if i measure it all right and blocked up the trem cavity (with wood and screws, not glue just incase)

thats the trem i'm looking at.

Well, you'd have a lot of blocking to do, then, you buy yourself a tune-o-matic bridge or something similar, and a Bigsby.

But the difficult part would be the amount of wood you'd have to remove/add to block up the trem cavity you have. Is it a vintage style, or a Floyd Rose?

Recessed or non?

Because if it's recessed... Then that's a lot of wood to block up.

Sorry, I was thinking about the Floyd Rose style on the Ibanez JEM.

But yeah, you'd probably want to block up the front and back. Project guitar has a damn decent tutorial on converting a trem to a hardtail, so you can use more of that here

But instead of drilling through, you just attach the Bigsby.

If your floyd was recesed and you fill the hole, you may have to add abit of neck angle to keep the action low with the bigsby.

Also when you fill the trem cavity screw won't be needed glue will be fine.
#14
what i meant was rather than glue it down i could fix it in with some screws, that way if i ever want a floy again all i have to do is unscrew it.

It's really not that simple.

Basically, when you plug up the hole, you need to fill the hole and seamlessly create a new area of original body. This is achieved with wood, glue, and filler, and all this BEFORE you add the finish.

It's not as simple as sticking a block of wood where the Floyd Rose was, screwing it in, and then working around that; it would be pointless.

You have to decide if you want to get rid ofthe Floyd Rose, because modding your guitar in the second most irreversible way only to change it back is a waste of your time.

Since it's a recessed Floyd, it's gonna be really hard to fit a bigsby considering how high they are...

And I LOVE the look of Stetsbars. I'm a very technical guy, so all the workings on show appeals to me for some reason.

The height of the Bigsby is no problem; the problem lies in the height of the bridge.

There needs to be a great enough angle over the bridge though, so they're both a problem (granted, the bridge more than the Bigsby).
