Hey, some people use 2 amps instead of 1, If i was to use 2 id use a roland jc120 for cleans and jcm800 4104 for distortion etc, and A/B/Y them. Would it be a good idea or save up for just one amp?

I'd really just get one amp, I wouldn't want to lug around two amps to every gig. A Cornford Hellcat would do everything I'd need.
My name is Tom, feel free to use it.

IM actually selling some stuff so i can get a old 80s JCM 800 2203 and a Roland JC 120 for cleans and im going to AB them should have it shortly

Great minds think alike... I'll probably do that if i had cash, people tell me its much more versatile, but i've never really tried it or taken it into account.

If you're lack of cash then combine the amount you would spend on 2 amps to get a better amp which could offer you clean and distoration you want.
Gear:
Black Jackson Dinky 2
Peavey Envoy 110
and that's it.

I want to do the same thing with my current amp and a Boogie Lone Star half stack (the A/B-Y thing, that is).

You can get a really nice metal sound if you combine a tube amp with a solid. I did it with a Marshall AVT100 with an Uber Metal pedal and a Engl Screamer combo using the amps gain. It sounded meaty and full like my mum.

True but a Jazz Chorus for cleans a JCM800 for dirty isn't something bad.

I think it's pretty safe to say a $2000 head can handle cleans

uh yeah my dad has a JC120....there isnt a better clean tone amp out there...maybe a vintage fender but they break up after th volume is turned up past three...for sparkling bright tons of headroom cleans at concert volumes...JC120....**** yeah

It's a good setup, a very good one, but make sure it is completely necessary. Do you gig/perform regularly? If not, I don't think there is really a need for such an extensive setup....IMO, if it's just for you, maybe band practice (jamming with a few guys), just go ahead and buy one good amp.

Having two amps is worth lugging around, and if they are combo's, its even less of a big deal. I have to lug around half-stacks and I don't mind, its worth it if you have the money and you'll have great tones. I use mainly use a JCM800 and AC30 and neither can come close to doing what the other can do. Sometimes I'll use a JCM900 and/or an old Univox 1011. But if space and money is an issue, try getting as versitile amp as possible. A versitile 2-channel 50w tube combo might be best for you
