who do you think is the best songwriter(s) of the old days, because john fogarty was really good, one of the best.

I like Neil Young, and obviously, Roger Waters/David Gilmour.
How to achieve Frank Zappa's guitar tone:
Quote by Thefallofman
Step 1: Buy a Gibson SG
Step 2: Insert Green Ringer, EQ, 3 dead squirrels and a microwave into said SG
Step 3: Plug in and freak the **** out.

Lennon & McCartney wrote some good songs. So did Bob Dylan.

Although Kasher and Obeorst dont qualify as old days one could argue that they are 2 of the best songwriters now.

Somehow I forgot to put Frank Zappa...

AHH! Good call, my man. Do we think Captain Beefheart deserves a mention, as well?

Leaping lizards Batman!

I haven't listened to Captain Beefheart, to be honset, but... why the hell not?!

Haha.

I'd check him out if I were you, because I'm me, and I did, and he's good. He and Zappa are good friends.

I only have his first album, but it's very good. It's blues rock, except in the 7th dimension.
Peace, peace, and that's my piece.

Ah yes, someone beside me has heard the master who is the Captain. Anyway, I don't think anyone has mentioned Bruce Springsteen yet. He is trul a spectacular songwriter.

Wow. Not one person has mentioned Brian Wilson.

In some sort of order:

Lennon/McCartney
Brian Wilson
Pete Townshend
Ray Davies
Bob Dylan
Neil Young
Jimmy Page (if Derigiberble comes in here to take offense with me...then just **** you)
Bruce Springsteen (Born to Run has got to be one of the greatest songs ever)
Jagger/Richards
Waters/Gilmour

And for modern stuff it's hard to beat Ben Folds...although Elliott Smith is pretty ****ing good.
