I've got about 1,000 dollars to spend on a new amp, possibly 1500 if I get alot of work done next week, and I'm looking for a new amp. I'm wanting a sound close to these bands: Trivium, In Flames, Between the Buried and Me, The Black Dahlia Murder, At the Gates, just a heavy sound with great leads. I was wondering if I bought a roland cube, and bought a Pod XT Live pedal, that it would work to get me a numerous range of sounds, possibly the ones I want, or should I get some sort of combo?

I don't listen to that stuff, but I hear Krank Kranenstein's are good, and the people who play them are in that same type Genre. Check them out.

Taylor GS8
Fender American Strat (w/DiMarzio pickups)
Epiphone Les Paul

get a micro cube guitar amp thats what i have

ENGL Powerball, but your going to need a cab. Great amp and has more gain than you'd ever need. If you want more of a darker sound than look into a Peavey 5150 or save up a bit more and get a Mesa Boogie Mark IV.

If you went the Cube/POD route youd have a ton of money left over...but also a fake sound.

Also, every band you listed...theres about 500 kids a day asking for the same sound...Search bar my friend.

But youre going to want to go with a tube amp. Probly a combo.

Like everyone said...

bright= XXX
dark= 5150/6505

xxx is wayy too bright for what he wants. get a 5150 or 6505. used combo.

Yeah, I'm thinking 5150/6505. Maybe the +/II model for the extra gain?

Yeah and I bet you read that some where. You've never played or actually heard one before? Their very good amps, I'll dig up the sound clips I found.

A peavey xxx, a ussed messa rec? With the amount of money you have you can get hold of something better than a roland cube.

I've played Kranks, Stu, I was mortified. They're just... yech.

Danno, which ones did you play? I tried the Rev. 1 combo my friend has, and I thought it really sounded good for metal. Tight and very agressive sounding. The cleans and mid gain were meh, kind of a one trick pony, but I was really only interested in the metal tones anyway. I've been hoping to try the Krankenstien, but everyone here says they suck. Did you try it yet, and if so, what exactly did you not like about the metal tones? Like too SS sounding, flabby, fizzy, etc...?

The + / II has less gain. I know it should be the other way around, but it isnt.
#19
^ well actually it has more gain on the rhythm channel, the lead channel is unaltered.

i'm gonna second the 5150 with a carvin legacy cab.

EDIT: typo.

It was the Krankenstein. I played a Fender Showmaster QBT thru it, so I know it wasn't the guitar. It was unclear, muddy, incredibly dark, had zero top end... It seemed to me like there was a blanket over the speakers- but there wasn't. And I maxed the Presence control and everything.

If I HAD to reccomend it, I'd only do so for someone who wants to play nu-metal rhythm guitar, all the time.

^ +1 to what danno said when i tried it. but add "sounded like a fat kid in a winter coat was standing in front of the cab."

If kranks are so expensive, get sponsored by them, I heard then they only cost like $900 per head.

When i tried them side by side(long long time ago) the II had less gain, or so it seemed. The amp has so much gain you wont know the difference.

And i third the 5150 + a "Carcin" Legacy cab. Id go straight for more bass.

well it shouldn't have less gain. it's the same cirictry for the lead channel.

Teh rhythm channel noob.

Anyways, gain matters not on a 5150.

bleh, you suck.

anyway some of the info in the 5150 thread is wrong. 5150 has less gain than the + on the rhythm channel. the lead is unaltered.
