Ok.. Im new here though i've been a voyer for ohh... 2 years now?? something like that.. Anyway.

I was wondering if anybody could be so kind as to help me (if they can) (points at pink queen ). I would like to mod my DS-1, much like Keeley does. Only thing is I have no real experience in working with electronics when it comes to diodes, circuits, inductors... etc. I do have soldering experience, as I have modded 3 xbox's, and 2 playstation 2's, and various other easy things. I just need help with what it is i need to desoldier and what it is I need to get to soldier on.

Basically... does anybody know what it is that Keeley does to the ds-1's to mod them into the ultra's? If so, would it be possible to create a diagram, and show what to get, were to soldier it, and ya know, that kind of stuff.

Edit: oh... and here is his site if you need to look at what he did

Thank You,

anyhoo, I popped open my ds-1 very simple, but its still beyond me, as I dont know anything about resistors, and all that jazz, yet. If anybody has some websites for some tutorials, on whats what, for stuff like this, and how its used and how things can be swapped out to inhance/ dehance stuff ect., I would be stoked.

Thanks, all

sweet dude, I didnt know he told you what he did to them, I figured he would try to keep them under the raidar as much as possible to people like me, so he could make more money.

Edit: actually now that I am looking at it, it doesnt seem to have all of the mods that he does to his DS-1, such as the switch below the tone knob... and information would help.

Edit2: It seems he has 2 mods, the Seeing Eye mod, and the Ultra mod, and the switch is to switch between the 2, or atleast thats what im getting from it.. Does anybody know what he did to make it an 'Ultra' I will look into the seeing eye mod and look up the parts, though I am slightly confused on how some of the capacitors are different looking, yet he replaces them with the same type.

as I said before, and help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Merc

That is a good thread.
I'm not very active here on UG currently.
I'm a retired Supermod off to the greener pastures of the real world.

ok, im still scratching my head, on the whole, switch out d5 and d4 for led's, what does this do? More specifically, exactly how does that effect the sound of the pedal. Also on the keeley mod, he has a 47pf cap across the clipping diodes on either D4, or D5 (not sure hard to see) on the back of the board. What does this due specificaly? How would the switch work, if i keep the D4 in and route a led to it on a switch to switch it off and on?

A little confused on some stuff, If anybody out there has a few webpages that might help explain some of this stuff I would be ecstatic.

on a side note, I found all the parts I need for the project on Mouser going to order them hopefully by the end of this month (have to talk to my bank and straighten out some stuff first)

Thanks all,

Merc
