What would happen if i wired two coils in the opposite direction around the same pickup?

Like a single coil pickup with two actual coils on it, going in separate directions?

If you made 2 coils winded in opposite directions you'd get 2 coils that are out of phase and a very weak tinny sound out of them (this works better if the neck and the bridge pickups are out of phase for example)

IF one of the coils had the polarity of the magnet reversed then you'd have a humbucker

Ah. And if I wired both coils of a humbucker the same direction, I'd just get 2 single coils?

ah wait, I read your question wrong.

If you wound the same pickup twice, just in opposite directions the signal would cancel itself out and you wouldn't get anything.

That's what I thought initially. Thanks.
