Hi. I've just started a project on making a friend of mine's old strat (not really old, less than 5 years I'd say) and relicing it. My question is- If I don't sand off the entire paint job on the body, how much of it will I need to re-lacquer? If I apply the lacquer over the already fine paint, will it cause a problem? Is lacquer even what I would use at this point? I don't really have any pictures, I don't know if that's a problem. It's my first project. Overall, I'm just looking to rough it up a bit.

why bother re-laquering? people with beat up strats don't do it, its just bare wood
