Ok, heres the deal:
I'm going to be working full time over the summer and will be making a fairly decent paycheck of about $650 every two weeks. Being as immature as I am with money, I decided to spend the entire paycheck on a bass every 2 weeks. I already own a high end bass so dont say i should save up for an expensive one. I like to have different types of basses, so thats kinda what I am aiming to do.

with the first paycheck im going to buy a Ibanez Gary Willis sig 5 string fretless
the second week i want to buy a fender geddy lee signature bass.

I dont know what to spend the other 3 on yet,

please help me waste my money!!!!

you should get a 12-string bass.
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Hamer-CH12-Chaparral-12String-Bass?sku=516264

or maybe double up on two weeks and get a rickenbacker or a warwick. I know you don't want an expensive one, but they play SO smoothly.

or if you want a bass that says, "Hey look at me!" you could get the Dean Dimebag razorback bass.

You could save it up (mind blowing, I know), and if you're in a band, buy a PA or maybe a nice cab/head

Got all that, but thanks for the opinion.

8 String bass sounds interesting, I'll look into it.

How bout a EUB? Is a Dean Pace any good?

You should save... about 4 paychecks and buy a Fender Jaco Pastorius j-bass. Sorry for not shortening that... I couldn't figure out how.

Fender Bassman 300 watt all tube head run thru 2 Avatar 2x12s and 2 Avatar 4x10s.

I'm basically looking for eclectic mid-range priced basses (used or new)

Yea, you made it pretty clear that you wanted basses...I guess some people still try to change your mind...And holy crap nice rig!...Got any older amps you'd be willing to sell?

Anyways, since you have an active 6 string and you're buying a passive 4 string and a fretless 5...I dont think there are many other categories of basses except for the double stringed ones (8-10-12 stringers) and extended range basses...You can buy a Conklin GT 7 or even better, invest multiple paychecks into getting a custom made bass from a custom boutique shop...Made exactly to your specs....You can also experiment with basses made of nonstandard or exotic woods...You can buy a Steinberger, lol those look weird...Headless boxes is what they look like...Or a travel bass...

I'm out of ideas now.

an acoustic bass somwhere would be great, give even more variety to choose from.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Victor-Bailey-Signature-AcousticElectric-Bass?sku=511994
those both look awesome (the first one is used by Flea btw).

you have a passive jazz and a fretless, and if u go for an acoustic, the only other bass you lack is a "power" bass, like a musicman or a p-bass. so that'd probably be the next logical choice.

so yeh i'd recommend as well a musicman or a p-bass, the best one u can get for 650.

I'd love an acoustic bass to try out my Violent Femmes licks. It's to bad Ernie Ball doesn't make Earthwood Acoustics anymore. I would buy one in a second.

I work full time at a state park in Massachusetts.

Uh, we have a van that we use already, and i can't take time off to tour, any touring we do will be next summer or over vacations + The money I earned would only be a small amount for what it take to buy a bus and insure it.

Thanks everyone for your input, it is greatly appreciated. I think I'll save 2 paychecks and get a Conklin Gt-7 and have one more to throw around.

EDIT: Oh and Xenocide, I have am Ampeg B2RE if you're interested, but that's all i have for amps.

Man i envy your position, if it were i i would invest in something a bit better then a bass a week, but each to his own. An idea that you could do (since your on holidays) is find an old bass and mod the kajeebus out of it. Ie pawn shopping and then put emg's in it, maybe change the electronics, sand it down and have some art done on it, especially since you have the money. You'd look at new bridge, tuners etc, but make something original sounding and with some crazy looks. Or design your own, take it to a wood worker to cut the shape and routing. Both something a bit out of the ordinary. That would be me anyway.

With the rig, how does a 300w valve amp go in comparison to say.. a 1400 watt hybrid. Reason i ask is i am tossing up between a ampeg svt pro 4 (tube pre amp, 1400w) or svt pro 2 (300w all valve). Both sound brilliant, a little different to each other, do you find with your bass man that you have enough headroom? I have to compete with a marshall jcm 2000 and a hughes and kettner stack.

I recommend an ESP/LTD B404 or B405. Mahagony body, neck thru, EMG's, it's different than all your others.

I own 7 different guitars and basses, a phat GK half stack, pedals etc.. And if it's one thing i've learnt, it's that it doesn't make you play any better. Save your money my friend. Live by the rule "if i have to LOOK for something to buy, i probably dont need it". Have a good time over the summer, and maybe in six months you'll need something for a few grand and you'll be able to buy it.

Get a Fender Jaguar, I think theyre like 700 so you might need a little extra.

HEEEEEEEEEELLLLL NAW would I spend it on basses) My Yamaha serves me just fine, I'd only buy another when/if it breaks. I'm no bass-sfetishist) And my band provided my with amp(s)...

Coklin is damn ugly. If i was to get a bass, i'd get a 35" 5 stringed Roscoe, but that's about it.

THe money I'm gonna make, will be spent on some quality threads and I gotta buy me some rims, dammit. Rollin on hubcaps ain't cutting it no mo'... And I wanna go to Portugal, practice my language a tad.

But buying basses? HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL NAW!

pffft... for starters,I hate you... and if you want something really cool, save up the last 3 paychecks, and order a custom made 36 fret-length fretless 4 string from Wal in the UK... my mate has a Wal , and they're bloody good... he also has a prototype Warwick Alien Stage acoustic bass that I will steal from him one day....

P.S. I don't really hate you....:P

Does wal have a website? theyre built really close to me apparanetly about 2 miles away.

Also to threadstarter look at Warr guitars. Something very unique and more versatile than a bass and guitar put together.

Way more interesting than another bass

i'm actually considering buying a 6 or seven string soon, so if anyone else has some semi-budget recomendations, thatd be nice

^good call, that will be interesting in the band that im in.

Applehead, i appreciate the input, but im not doing this to become better at playing bass, i just would like to have a variety of basses to choose from when i'm playing with my band, jamming or sitting in with another, or doing a solo performance.

Bassilo, if looking cool is what you care most about that's fine. I care about bass, I'm going to school to study it, so thats why I'd spend my money on it

So if you bought only one bass in the entire 10 weeks you would save enough money up for a NYC Sadowsky (If not a brand new one at least a used one).
haha

Get something really crazy

An Ovation Magnum springs to mind, if you can find one. They are long scale, so you'd need long-scale strings. Plus they have a really big pickup with four small coils (one under each string) and that sexy Ovation headstock.

Yea, if you're going for a 7 string I'd take the Conklin or any other brand besides Galveston, from what I've heard Galvestons are primarily cheap instruments that dont sound that good...

My friend bought a 6 string Galveston bass just to have a 6 string and it sounds like utter crap when compared to my 506...But then again its a 506 ...But when compared to another 6 string of a lower price and quality the Galveston still delivered a substandard performance...However, the 7-8 stringers might be better or maybe my friend just got a lemon...

Wait, according to the harmony-central reviews I've been reading, the 8 string is actually a pretty good bass except for the fact that the action is not adjustable on the bridge and its neck heavy...

I'd still get a GT7 though...Groove Tools are awesome, just ask the peanutman...

true, I forgot about that for a second, sorry...Is someone else interested in the amp?...Do you need a response now?...

Because I've got around a good 200 dollars in my possesion and I'm trying to find someone to borrow the remainder of the price from...I'll know by tommorow...I ask that you hold the amp for me for one more day in case someone else is interested or if you're putting it up on the bay or something...

In that case, do have a Tacoma Thunderchief?
