I absolutly love Explosions in the Sky. They rock. Instrumental band. ya dig'em?... tell me. Ya hate'em.... tell me. Ya don't give a crap about... why are ya here.

cheers, nick.

I like them a lot, mainly when I'm driving or trying to go to sleep. Very good music, but as an instrumental band I prefer Godspeed You! Black Emporer.

Saw them a few years ago and went through a phase of listening to those who tell the truth... on repeat for a few months.

Id love to see them again.

Same here. For a post-rock band I just don't find them exciting.

i've only got the earth is not a cold dead place and it's really great when i want to give it a listen. Can't really see myself getting anything else by them, feel like i've got all they could offer me for some reason.
#9
i do think they are the best post rock band around. Maybe it's because I like classical guitar music and they seem to have a lot of classical influences on their guitar duos

Great band, I've been listening to The Earth... quite a bit lately. Your Hand in Mine ftw indeed.

All their songs sound exactly the same. Same instrumentation. Same rhythm. Same everything. I get bored of them too easily. Mogwai, Saxon Shore, and Red Sparowes kick their asses.

mogwai, aren't that great.

oh and i was (bored and) watching a documentary/interview about that faria women that slept with Sven Joran Errikson and for some reason EITS soundtracked it. A rather odd but enjoyable experiance none the less.
#13
Sure they are. They are also the most successful post-rock instrumental band ever...because... (wait for it) ...they are great.

half of mogwai's stuff sounds the same.
i love mogwai, but i'd say they are more repetitive than eits.

Their albums each have their own sound. No two albums sound alike.

I had a fleeting interest in them during my "post-rock phase", but now, I couldn't listen to them. Along with most other post-rock.

success doesn't mean greatness. most of the times it's the opposite. i do agree that mogwai are a better band than explosions just because they do vary a bit more and have all those cool noisy parts but EITS are just better musicians...

No, not at all.... more like electonic/post-rock/post-hardcore kind of.

But no vocals so post-rock.

No vocals doesn't necessarily mean they're post-rock. I personally wouldn't call 65days post-rock, but I wouldn't really call them math rock either, probably somewhere in the middle.

Man, Sensible Soccer was amazing. The way you could get that perfect angle, and score from the halfway line every time. Classic.

I love them, but I admit that they start to get repititive after a while. The instruments aren't diverse enough and they don't experiment with different time signatures enough. That said, The Rescue does improve on that, the songs don't really blend into each other like they do on their other albums and they don't drag on unneccessarily.
#37
eits is way more repetitive than mogwai. those who tell... isn't so bad about it, but earth is not a cold dead place is just the same song 5 times over.

and about music to fall asleep to- i think stuart from magwai said once to a fan that told him that they were the perfect band to fall asleep to, "why are you sleeping? you should be ****ing listening to it"
#38
^lol.. I can't study or sleep to most music, specially post rock. those climaxes won't let me sleep.

Same here. I have "How Strange, Innocence"...and I ordered "Those who tell", and "The earth is" should be here by the end of the week. I have Happy Songs... and it is alright...but I find myself listening to like 5 songs...not many solid riffs. How Strange Innoncence has some amazing parts that get stuck in my head. Friday night I fell asleep listening to the with behind-the-neck headphones, and they were on the floor when I woke up......I'm lucky I didn't suffocate.

Anyways,,,,,awesome band....can't wait to listen to the other two albums.

I own "The Earth..." and I admit, the instrumentation is pretty similar, but the album art is sick and as stated above, "Your Hand In Mine" is a grade A song.

I basically listen to them to chill/when driving/going to sleep.

Oh yeah, and I love snare drumming, so this band fills my snare-drum quota.
