My amp decided to stop working last week, and I've decided to get a valve amp. I went to a guitar store today and played the Blues Junior and loved it. I was wondering how heavy can it get? I'm not really into playing metal, but I would like an amp that can handle higer gain stuff (bit heavier than Guns N Roses). Will this amp be able to handle it? The guy in the shop said a decent overdrive pedal would do it. Is this true? And if so, what one would be suitable?

Thanks

You could just go back and play it again and find out though haha :]

i own one, boosted it does heavy metal. it'll do Gn'R+ unboosted if you get the power section going too.

I've got one, I love it so much, I mean, so much.

Yea, it'll get to that type of gain with an overdrive pedal or two, but not by itself.

^ dude all you need is some good output buckers and you can get crazy gain out of it.

Really? I didn't know that.... as my LP sounds crap, and my Strat isn't really high output... interesting to know!

yeah that is so true. If I turn on the humucker on my Fat Strat and play it through the clean channel of my blues jr. it already sounds like light overdrive.

I know that you can get a white stripes tone with just the blues. jr. itself.

i use a tube screamer, cause i cant always crank it. but u can get it pretty heavy with the right guitar, dials up and fat on.

Jenny needs to sow her wild oats with random Gibsons and Taylors she picks up in bars before she settles down with a PRS.

Cool, I'll look into the tubescreamer as well then. Thanks a lot everyone!

if you're looking for a tubescreamer, check out a maxon OD9. same thing as the vintage ibanez tube screamers with true bypass. the new ibanez ones are different.

Try doing this next time you go. Turn down the master to like 2 and turn the volume to 11, it'll give you a good gain tone.
