Ok, well everyone knows that Jelly Roll Morton CLAIMS he invented jazz, but thats not necessarily true. Who does everybody think it would be? Or is it just that jazz became so by many different artists? Was there one that stands out? Please share your thoughts and opinions on the subject.

Jazz evolved from blues, so ask yourself who invented blues?
When you catch some guy mastubating to you from a pair of binoculars call me and tell me you can see me and i will go where you cant see me and don't worry it's a compliment.

Michael Jackson's just a crazy guy.

if was definitely black people, its origins are in blues, blues came from field hollars and shouts and then morphed into music on the plantation. jazz started when bluesmen got together and played for eachother, taking their skills to new levels

How the hell can you invent jazz?

What a silly topic.

But Jazz didn't just evolve from blues. It took elements of marching band music, ragtime and blues.

and classical music.

I was watching a PBS show on the origins of Jazz and they say, as I can remember, that it was created by a piano player in a New Orleans brothel.
He would get better tips for himself and the ladies if he played uptempo stuff that he improvised as he went.
I cannot remember any more than that.

DJ

And yes I am oldish as I was watching a PBS show on a Saturday night......

Noone person started it.

I think it started in New orleans after the ragtmie era ended (they reffered to it as being a local style of rag-time)

To do with laws that forced the rich people to be lbing wiht the poor in new Orleans.

Well, jazz was invented by a bunch of black blues dudes who played in groups to cover up their lack of talent. Pistols is right though, originally 'jazz' was spell 'jass', whihc is slang for sex. See all those rapper who are all acting like pimps and stuff like that? The original jazz guys were 10x worse.
