I wrote this bit about a friend of mine; she's been going through some problems lately. It's really quite literal - I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing, though.

You?ve read his letter
Every word in every line
And you?ve taken this rejection
As a sign of the times
Times when your luck, it seems
Has faded with the years
You?ve tried to go on without him
But you?re still tethered by these fears
The fear that he?s moved on
And the fear that you?ll grow old
Missing out on a lifetime of love
In a past that you?ve let go

I know the knife that turns inside you
The world within you falls apart
With these withered hands, I can save you
If you?d let me fix your broken heart

I know what scares you the most
Is that he wasn?t the one
That you?re really meant to love again
And this story is far from done
I can show you the strength in letting go
Knowing you?ve loved each day to the end
Turn your back to the past and move on, my love
Your future is just around the bend

I know the knife that turns inside you
The world within you falls apart
With these withered hands, I can save you
If you?d let me fix your broken heart

From sweet nothings to nothing sweet at all
Your heart beats like raindrops on rooftops
Looking out the window to pass the hours
You?ll see the leaves turn with the seasons
Every falling grain of sand
Is another discovery left buried
Every turning page of the calendar
Is another month left empty

The hardest part isn?t letting go
It?s reaching out to nothing once it?s gone

I know the knife that turns inside you
The world within you falls apart
With these withered hands, I can save you
If you?d let me fix your broken heart
