The air was cooling
Red and gold leaves everywhere
Saw my breathing in white wisps
Hiking through the quiet valley

Carrying packs with sandwiches
We stopped at the river with
Stepping stones for crossing.
You were smiling and gaily pointing
Before slipping on some moss,
Pulling me into fall?s frosty river

Sputtering and flailing
Reached out for the nearest rock
Took in a breath and a quick look around
Thought you were gone

But there you were, radiant, smiling.
Wet hair and shivering under
A shimmering white waterfall
Hands outstretched to open sky
Calling out my name

Where was this beautiful girl when
I felt I couldn?t breathe?
I looked into her wide eyes, and
Knew what it was like to fall in love.
