tbh, and maybe it's just me being cynical, you'll get closer to SRV's tone by using heavier strings and playing harder. afaik he used strats, tubescreamers into fender bassmans, which seems like a pretty passive setup to me - no "exciter circuits" needed

totally opinion based of course so feel free to totally disregard it

He actually mixed Dumble amps with Fender Bassmen (mans?), the Fenders would be clean, while the Dumbles would be driven, its actually a pretty nice sound. He also ran 2 Tubescreamers into them.
