i was wondering, for all the extreme shredders out there, how you achieved the speed and improvisational skill to shred (for your ORIGINAL solos)

Improvisation is a matter of knowing what scales to base solos on and when to use
and combine them to get what you're trying to say through the guitar out.

Speed comes from carefull practice and learning total control of your body. You
must be relaxed and accurate. When practicing you should be practicing as much
on your focus and awareness as the actual physicaly skills of moving your fingers
and pick. Speed practice is like a mirage -- if you head directly for it you'll never get
there. You are better off learning to play well than fast. The fast will take care
of itself.
