Hey everyone. I have a Epiphone Les Paul Custom and my playing is starting to come around but I don't know anything about my guitar really. What can I do to bring out the best sound and playability from my guitar (strings, action, etc)? Any help would be really helpful, thanks.

How old are the strings? you could always change them.

They're about a year now. What kind of strings do you recommend?

Holy ****! Man you need to change your strings every 2-4 weeks if you use theme every other day!

If you play more than like 10 minutes a day than you should change em once a month at least. . .

I like ernie ball nickel 10's. . .

since u said "ur playing is starting to come around" ur a beginner right?
if u r, then u probly wanna start out w/ light gauge strings.(obviously)
and when u take off ur strings, polish ur guitar and fret board so it stays
in good condition. i use Gibson Pump Polish

I use ernie ball .10s but its just preference. They sell like three at a time on sale so get like 9 10 and 11 so you can find what you like the most.

Huh. I wouldn't recommend going from 9 to 10 to 11 in a short period of time. It'll mess up the trem and neck most definitely, then he'd need a setup done.

umm i got a question. i play my guitar 8 hours a day. the last time i changed my strings was a year ago. must i really change my strings? they look fine to me.

^ Compare the color of the strings along the fretboard, and the color of teh strings on the head(above the nut and below the tuning peg). That's one of the ways I tell if I need new strings. That and when they're starting to feel funky.

you sure about the 2-4 weeks thing? i got my LP studio back in april, and i haven't changed the strings it came with. i play at least an hour total a day, and it doesn't go out of tune much.

^It'll sound a hell of a lot better with new strings, you'll be amazed. . .

I've found that it's easier for me to do crazy barre chords on a new set of strings. . .
