As you know, there are many amp manufacturers in this whole wide world,....

Some of them are considered boutique for their build quality, sonic performance, and even animal hide covers.......

Know, I don't know all of them, and what their good at........

So hear are the ones I know....... CMIIW

Diezel: above 2000$, known for its distinctive overdrive sound...... (CMIIW)

Dumble: up to 30.000$, known for their clean overdrive, and rareness, and nasty corporate leaders owning them, might be the best in the world......

Framus: above 2000$ Good high-gain models, cool name, amps ussually named after reptiles, dark sounding, overall VERY GOOD amp

ENGL: (Whats the price range Dave??) known for not only high gain amps, but also versatility, great cleans, crunching crunch, searing lead.. considered rather bright sounding

Splawn: (No price) known as suped-up Marshallls, very good sounding, one of the best smooth ODs out there AFAIK (not counting those godly Dumbles)

Mesa Engineering: (Not all of these amps are considered boutique anymore due to the ever-presence of these amps in almost every guitarists rig) known for their hi gain models, wide use among artists, versatility, and complexity !!

Marshall: Known for their bone-crushing SS series, the MG. Considered by many to be the most sensual-sounding amp.... There are stories of supermodels giving away themselves to geeks that are using these amps to play NOFX and Blink-182

Please add the list, include the price, and what their best known for.....

Thx.........
Tone is all ...... well probably 75%, in your fingers.
The rest depends on your wallet's thickness !!

Voodoo Amps. Dont know much about them.

EDIT:

Voodoo Amps: (Price Range: 1795-2525) Hex, WitchDoctor, V-Plex are the models. Hi-Gain amps. The V-Plex is like a Plexi from what I can see and from what the name recommends. http://www.voodooamps.com/

Marshall and Vox are no longer boutique amps.

Engl's range from $1200-$3500
Splawns are $1300-$1900

There's also Mojave, Matchless, Rocofortte, THD, Custom Audio Amplifiers, Bogner, Orange...
Ibanez -> Peavey -> Eardrums

Apparently I'm on some list of people to listen to..?

Bogners - Some people tranlates it as "sex in an amp", various models, all cool, all pricey, their cabs are also well known to be good cabs, but very pricey.......

Orange amps are boutique ??

C'mon peepz !!

Dr.Z
Bad Cat
Masotti
THD
Splawn
Roccaforte

Anyone interested in boutique amps/pedals and custom guitars should check out www.musictoyz.com . They sell a bunch of cool chit there and have a forum dedicated to the gear.
It's a fine line between clever and stupid.

Dr. Z - mid gain. good for blues and classic rock aplications.

THD - mid gain, good for classic rock aplications. bigger models have built in attunaters and you can replace tubes on all THD amps while in standby.
