Well, there is some light on a sad past few days in the history of Pink Floyd.

It it July 11th, 2006, and PULSE, after 12 years of waiting and speculating on a release date of this historic concert, has finally been released on DVD (I believe it was yesterday for the UK and today for the US).

I was reading up on it on amazon.com and found this, an explanation from David Gilmour on the delays and setbacks of the release date in the past year or so, and even as to why it took 12 years to release:

David Gilmour Speaks! from the May 2006 issue of Guitar World magazine (Vol. 27/No. 5), "Shine On" an interview by Alan Di Perna. The following is a full quote from the interview concerning the Pulse DVD release (pp.96-98):

"GW: Speaking of live shows, why is the Pulse DVD coming out later this year, some 12 years after the Division Bell tour?

GILMOUR: It was out on VHS long ago. We had a lot of technical problems converting it to DVD. It was shot on video rather than film, which I now think was a mistake: it doesn't look very good when you enlarge it on a big screen television, which everyone seems to have these days. We'd been investigating all sorts of ways to digitally enhance the footage.

By the time we'd surmounted all the problems, it was way too late to make our November or December ['05] deadline. I didn't see any point in putting it out at the same time as my album (On An Island), so I asked that we put the release back until September".

so, anybody have it already? Is anyone going to get it?

I hope to go out and pick it up either today or tomorrow.

I just bought it too! But Im at work now and I gotta wait till I get home..

So did they fix the picture quality? Will it still look like crap if it's enlarged, cause I have a big tv?

i have the vhs version, and the concert sucks,
well the concert doesn't but the songs do, it's mostly from the division bell, and unless you like it you probably won't like the concert
it's honestly not worth buying, just download it
#17
^^well, the Shine On from it is great, and One Of These Days is fucking amazing.

I enjoyed the few songs I watched from Dark Side also. The light displays throughout the show are incredible.

Learning to Fly? High Hopes? Coming Back to Life? Sorrow?

These songs suck?? If you dont like Gilmour-era Floyd, then why did you ever get it in the first place?

I'd sell a nut for some Clapton tickets...

And I'm really considering going to the Allman Bros. I'd feel like a dick if I didnt cause its so close to my house.

Having just watched the entire Pulse DVD, I have to say that it's without a doubt the most amazing concert DVD I've ever seen in my life. Infact, I think that had I been at that concert, I would've just killed myself after it was over because I would have never seen anything so amazing again in my life. It would be the perfect death.

Did you watch "Say goodbye to life as we know it" and all the other features? This DVD had a great concert, and the special features just add to it's greatness. I recommend if you haven't watched them, that you do it now.

PNC? That's why I want to go, I love the PNC Bank Arts Center. The Black Crowes are playing there next week, and the Waters and Aerosmith shows are also there. The biggest surprize for me was finding Peter Frampton playing in the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank. Such a small place, it should be a great show.

If I had any of the proper equipment and actually knew what I was doing, I'd bootleg all of these shows

I'm going to watch atleast all of Dark Side today. It's quite a good DVD though.

I watched the first disc last night. Absolutley brilliant stage and light production, and the band was excellent. I found it weird they had an extra drummer, guitarist, and keyboardist (like having an extra band). And it really suprised me that the other guitarist took a few solos. That really says a lot about Gilmour's ego (or lack thereof).

Speaking of the Count Basie Theatre... Kansas is playing there in August! They do have a tendency to overcharge at that place, but if tickets are reasonable it's definitley worth checking out.

Well, the extra band was there to cover the extra parts that the others wouldn't be able to cover, for example, the extra drummer provided the opening drum sounds for "Learning to Fly" (he had some electric drum set pads) and at one point I heard him playing the tambourine he had on his drum rack.

I'm pretty sure they've always carried an etra guitarist on tour (maybe not for all songs) because in Breathe, Gilmour plays the slide guitar and gets someone else to play those chords, plus in the "In the Flesh Tour" I'm pretty sure Snowy White made some appearances.
#34
^^on the 1977 In the Flesh tour, Snowy played lead on Have a Cigar and on the Wall tour, the second solo in ABITW Pt. 2 (not to mention playing in the surrogate band for In the Flesh?). In 77, He played bass on Sheep and I'm pretty sure he played bass on Pigs 3DO also.

Regarding slide, when the band played Dark Side live, I don't think they had a second guitarist. Gilmour just did a little intro solo and then they went into the lyrics. They picked up Snowy starting with the 77 tour and into the Wall tour.

hey man...3rd row loge for $39.50 a piece for Frampton is fine with me I also want to see Asia there, for the sole reason of seeing Steve Howe play guitar live.
