Go and try a few out, look at the Japanese ones too, immense guitars.

I tried my mate's out with my rig, sounded amazing, especially with the neck pickup, it was shockingly good.

nope, they've got a reissue http://fender.com/products/search.php?section=guitars&cat=jazzmaster

The pickups look like P90s but I believe they are actually regular strat type pickups, just in a different case.

A bunch of alternative/indie/noise/etc... bands use them, mainly as at the time they were much cheaper than vintage Strats (the price today for and old has jumped up though)

Yea I think so, but you'll find a load on eBay and in used sections in shops, make sure you can try one before buying though to get to know the general feel and sound of Jazzmasters.

yeah, it'll be fine. Don't expect to play Metallica on it but it'll sound ok (many many people have used and still use singlecoils with overdriven sounds)

no no no, metal isnt my cup of tea lol.

i just use a little distortion and i like using clean channels in my songs.

Distortion sounds great with them, I used both my overdrive pedals with the neck pickup, sounded so smooth and dirty.

the jaguar neck scale feels a bit childish and crowded in the high frets, but this is only from playing one a few minutes at a store, i dont really have much experience. also the trems piss me off. theres also a jaguar/jazzmaster offspring by squier called the jagmaster-havent played it tho. i love the body shape too. single coils can work great for punk, and you can always change pups if you really hate em.
#19
Yea it'll work well for punk, and look for the Japanese ones on eBay, great guitars.

Make sure you can play a few in shops before you buy though, so you can get a feel for them.

You could also try the Squier Jagmaster. A lot cheaper and not bad at all.

Its not the same thing as playing a real Jaguar/Jazzmaster though, its just like any other cheap Squier :/
