anything that has a pretty good clean, and can get up to classic rock when cranked. Tube amps.

Er, fender, laney, orange, etc.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

Decemberists, Elliott Smith, and Belle and Sebastion do a lot of acoustic stuff...are you looking for an acoustic amp?
#12
Elliot Smith played a Top Hat when he played electric

Decemberists definatly play electric

and Belle and Sebastion do both (but more electric on their later stuff)

Either way i'd get a fender or Vox

I definitely saw the decemberists live and the lead singer mainly used an acoustic. I also did not say they only do acoustic stuff.

Ok ok i'm not flaming you.

i went into GC the other day and played a Bassman...all i can say is WOW. i LOVE the bassman (its a tad out of my price range at 1150 but it sounds soooo nice. you should just go to GC and try out these amps and see what you like best)

Well I'd really recommend a tube combo but... anyway, half stacks aren't one unit. Look into the seperate "great manufacturers" of cabinets and heads. Indie loves the vintage sound, so look for a vintage head like the Fender Bassman on Ebay. Get a good EQ pedal or an OD pedal. You really don't need a 4 x 12, just get a 2 x 12 from http://www.avatarspeakers.com/ or something.

Halfstacks = not so indie (unless you're Sonic Youth).
Mic'd combos = indie.

^

Fender or Vox valve combo all the way.
- Gibson Les Paul Studio
- Squier Standard Strat
- Roland Cube 60
- Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde
- Boss OD-3
- Behringer EQ700
#28
Threadstarter, give me a few decent reasons why you'll need a halfstack over a combo?

.....Exactly.

Vox AC30 or a Fender Deville/Deluxe. Try a load of amps out first though.

Common misconception... they simply look the most impressive. Half stacks look louder because they are bigger, but the portion that produces the sound is still the same as a combo. The only reason people have cabs and heads seperately is so they can mix and match. You can push a 5 watt head through any sized cab, the overall loudness will be the same (though headroom will be proportional to size).
#32
i guess he wanted a half-stack because another reason. it looks pretty.

but whatever watts it has determines how loud it could get. not if it's a half-stack or anything.
maybe if had like a billion cabs and made with like a surround sound with 'em all. but i doubt that, since your jobless, and it's just plain stupid.

so what you guys are telling me is that this little amp can play live shows of 200 or more?

They can do them type of shows without a mic, but if you wanna' stay cleanish, use a mic through the venue's PA system.

^Hell yea! I can hear my 15watt valve amp over drums and bass at 3 out of 12, and it's quiet compared to the Vox.

Trust me on this, you're under estimating how loud this thing can be.

GEEZ. I just explained that the part of amps that make them look big don't actually make them technically louder.
