It has to be any song by "The Black Keys" - Their songs are full of awsome riffs. If you haven't heard the Black Keys, either shoot yourself, or watch:

Everyone does best solos, wheres the RIFFS!

So in your opinion, what is the best riff ever and by who?
Actually, everyone does best riffs too. This type of thread occurs more than you'd believe.

I laughed pretty hard at that one. Iron Maiden usually has some great riffs, and I like any AC/DC one.

I think that holds more true than you think. Just because it isnt a complex riff doesn't mean it can't change modern guitar, or that it isnt good. First off it sounds good/catchy, I'll give them that. and it came out in what, 95? look at all the songs after that, they start out with an intro, go to a punk verse, and have a harmonized chorus.

Almost any riff off of "Ashes of the Wake" by Lamb of God. And how come no one has mentioned Slayer yet, pretty much any riff from "Reign in Blood" or their other works are pretty much in one word, sex.

i'd say Thunderstruck as it is pretty sweet
With the blood of the ones he loved
Upon his filthy hands
He took a vow, never
Never to sin again.

there are way too many to declare one the best. Dimebag's riffs were insanely awesome of course. I've been listening to alot of Dream Theater lately and i love that first riff in A Change of Seasons.

The opening riff and then the harmonized riff right after it, in Unholy Confessions by Avenged Sevenfold.

90% of Malcom and Angus' riffs tie for the best, but among them, my favorite is Riff Raff, which is also a good one to learn just to improve your fretwork going between chords and riffs.
It's better to burn out,

First Heavy Riff from "The Name of God" by Dream Theater
"Battery" - Metallica
"As The Palaces Burn" Lamb Of God
"Master Of Puppets" Metallica
"Crucify" James Labrie's solo album
Many Riffs from "damage inc." Metallica
Final Fantasy VII Boss Battle music (lol)
"Conversations" Finger Eleven
Played on piano but anyways "Wait for Sleep" Dream Theater
"Call of Ktulu" Metallica
"Follow The Reaper" Children of Bodom

Those are all i can think of right now

Iron Man-Black Sabbath
i dont care what anyone says Iron Man's riff is possibly the heaviest riff ever recorded, I think it realy defines (imo) what it means to be heavy metal.

Dio, Gn'R, Maiden, hard to say. anone that takes their time....wait! PRIEST, Metal Meltdown, or Ram it Down, --- the great betthoven like riff on the guitar they sneak in to a great metal song.
but the simple ones are the best. cause you can play them easily.
