They are awesome but they are ROCK AND ROLL.

To even put them in the same genre as cannibal corpse is absolute absurdity.
#2
Well, they are considered metal only because of what they did back then. You don't need overly distorted guitars, screaming douche bags, and drop tunings to be metal. You just need to be heavy. Songs like The Ocean, Black Dog, Coomunication Breakdown, and Whole Lotta Love are some of their heavy songs. The thing is, they weren't totally metal though.

No-one thinks Led Zep are metal, but they did influence early metal sounds. Anyway, this thread is retarded.

That is intirely false. Back then, they were considered heavy metal and can still be considered that. You just need to know what heavy metal is.

Led Zeppelin were some of the forefathers of metal. People need to keep in mind that metal as a genre has evolved so much. Also, genres and bands aren't static, they're dynamic. And metal back then was louder compared to what else was out and a prominent feature was a bass doubling a guitar line, making it "heavy".

LZ was considered metal in the 70's. and there is so many kinds of metal it isnt even funny. So when people say they're metal they're not putting them with cannibal corpse, cause corpse is death metal and zeppelin is more classical metal.

Mods, please move this thread. Threadstarter, please post your topics in the appropriate forum.

Zep could be called classic metal, hard rock, or rock and roll. Genres are only a general way to categorize music.

True.

It's been said that almost all metal bands after the 70s used one of two sounds as their way of doing it..

1. Led Zep (not as heavy and dark)
2. Sabbath (heavier and darker)
#14
Led Zep is hard rock, on their time, they were metal, they were the guys who played the heaviest music (with black sabbath) and that originated the metal music, heavy metal is a term that wasn't used for a long time, but it was applied to bands like led zep and sabbath, now after years of change, heavy metal has evolved into the music with distorted guitars, screaming dumbasses, and crazy drummers that you know. If 30 years ago you compared led zep and sabbath to bands like jethro tull and pink floyd that were the pop-rock scene at the time you could say that they were "heavy"...

But as our friend up there^ says:

Yes. I was watching tv and this local tv station had the guy who directed "metal: a head bangers journey" talking to them. So hes like saying how black sabbath started metal. Then the tv anchor is like... "nah I think zeppelin started metal." The director just said "alright if you think that way its fine."

actually sabbath started metal, because they wanted to make music "that scared people" and I think that should happen again, going back to the basics....... Go scare some people!

Heavy Metal = Iron Maiden, Led Zep, etc.
Metal = Cannibal Corpse, etc.

Basically, Heavy Metal is harder Hard Rock which is harder Rock which is a contraction of Rock and Roll.

Metal is bull****, man.

This thread is fuing retarded.

And by your logic, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, or Dream Theater couldn't be considered metal either, because they don't sound like Cannibal Corpse, shitwit.

*reported* for retardedness and being in just about the most incorrect forum here.
