I ordered a Marshall MG100HDFX half stack for $600. It should be here any day now and from wat I've heard, the MG series isn't that good.

I'm an intermediate player so I don't need the highest quality products nor something that's a piece of garbage.

Can someone tell me if this was complete waste of money or if I can get something good out of it???

complete waste of money.

at least its really up to you to decide when you get it. i'm guessing you got the matching cab as well?

well i woulnd't be anywhere near content with that set up, but as long as you don't play any other amps, i don't think you'll notice the difference for a while.

Yah, people here hate the MG. You get what you pay for with half-stacks...but I'm sure it will work for you...hopefully...
#5
Waste of money, although if you're not wanting a really high quality amp, maybe it'll do for a while.
However, you're an idiot for not trying it out and just buying because it looks "cool" and is "Marshall".

u shud. MG's lick balls
I've got something in my front pocket for you.
Why don't you reach down in my pocket and see what it is?
Then grab onto it, it's just for you.
Give a little squeeze and say: "How do you do?"

^Depends where you got it from.

You should be able to, but if not, you could kick it over or something, and say it's prone to falling, then get your money back.

600 dollars... I can think of many ways to spend that better. Starting with not an MG. I mean, an MG for 200 is one thing, but 600 should set you up with a better amp.

I got it from Guitar Center.

I have a C-1 Hellraiser and I'm playing it through a Fender Frontman 15G. I hope it would sound better than that.

They aren't horrible, but they are FAR from good. The best word I can use to describe them would be "mediocre." First, they are extremely overpriced. My MG50DFX cost $375. I've now found out that I could have gotten a full tube combo amp that's the same 50w for $25 more.

They really don't have great tone. They may sound fine in the store, but once you get home they take a LOT of tweaking to get close to the sound you want. And even once you do, it's still never quite what you want.

The overdrive channel is weak. It doesn't have that punch that many amp's overdrive channels have. There is also absolutely no way to get just a light amount of distortion-I've tried quite a few times, and all I can get is Clean - Clean breaking up horribly - mid distortion - heavy and buzzing distortion.

The clean channel is decent, but starts to break apart (not in the good way) with the gain on it at about 1 o' clock on the dial.

If you like the amp when you get it (and are positive you like it) keep it and expect to upgrade again in 6 months when your ears develop more. If you have any doubts about the sound, take it back ASAP and look at getting a nice tube combo amp for the same price (or less in some cases!).

If you return it, here are my suggestions for a new amp;

Peavey Valveking 112 or 212. $400/$575

Full tube amps. The 112 is a 50w combo and the 212 is a 100w combo. Or, if you have another $300 lying around, you can go for the halfstack version of the Valveking as well. The head is $500 and the cab is $400.

I dont think everyone knows what "sigged" means. Some people probably think it means "i concur" or something like that.

IMO I think your best bet would be to return it without ever taking it out of the box, this way they can't deny you your refund for any reason.
#26
eww return that **** NOW
if they wont take it back, then just buy a distortion pedal for it
the distortion sucks.
the IDIOT at the guitar store set me up with an MG when i went to test pedals...it sucked ass majorly.

hey guys, i got a funny store to tell,

i know a guy who bought a mg100 combo for 800CANADIAN, now i got a peavey xxx super 40 efx for 820CANADIAN() and the xxx is 100000000000000000000xtimes better

alright, everybody knows the mg sucks the big one, but just work with it. i would try and return it, but if you cant, try out some pedals and mess around with your settings. Then when you have enough money, sell the mg for about 400 bucks and used your saved up money to buy a better amp. who knows, the mg might work for you.

it just doesnt work for 99% of the world. lol.

You should return it and go for a nice tube amp.

Check out the fender deluxe. It's about the same price as the MG but it gets MUCH louder and has much better tone.

You see a small tube amp can get MUCH louder than a solid state half stack trust me. Tube amps are insane.

When I played my fender deluxe I kept the volume at 3 because if I went over that the room would shake.

It's all good... I had an MG a few years ago - I found a sweet spot and banged on it till my head caved in - it'll do in a pinch and every amp has "something"... FIND THAT SWEET SPOT :p
Now running an Eleven Rack with Pro Tools 10.3.3 - it's amazing and I'm having ball with it - worth every penny. PT 10 is tops IMO and the Eleven Rack is a work of art!
#40
You could return it, and get a used 5150 combo. Thats a big difference

MG= super crappy amp that does nothing good.

5150 = amazing amp for anything with good amounts of gain.
