im wanting to add an LED to a pedal that im making but im not sure how. the LED would turn on and off with the pedal. could i use it in place of another part or could i just add it and not cause any major changes?

You use a 3DPT footswitch and use the 3rd section on it to turn the LED on/off

if you're using a 12v source, something like a 470 ohm resistor to an LED should be fine, if it's a 9v source, i think something around a 330 or 270 ohm resistor would work.

So it'd be
12v/9v ---wire---> 470/330 ohm resistor ---wire---> led ---wire---> ground
though you may want to check the spec sheet for your led, for the optimal values and work around that (but these values are typically the same for most common led's)

Some of those new ultrabright LEDs are really ****ing bright (blinding your from the distance of your pedalboard) so you can get away with 4.7k to 10k even.

Sorry for stealing the thread here...

Isn't there another option without using 3PDT (cause they are rare) like the millenium bypass?

Also, where can you order 3PDT footswitches from for delivery to UK?

Yeah, the millenium bypass works fine, have to tweak it a bit but it'lll get you that LED and keep the true bypass. Theres a bunch of articles on it on www.geofex.com on it.

But as far as getting 3DPT switches
- Aron from http://www.diystompboxes.com/cart/ sells them and will ship them to anywhere without any trouble, people all over the place have had good experiences with him.
- http://www.banzaieffects.com/ is in Germany and shipping is pretty speedy all over europe (I get my stuff in 5 days or so, but apparently he's forged some wah inductors recently)
- http://www.smallbearelec.com/Categories.bok is in America but they'll also ship to anywhere

the LED i have doesnt have any resistance so couldnt i just put it in its own circuit that is controlled by the power switch?

www.wah-wah.co.uk does 3PDT switches.

To know which resistor to use:

R = (Vs - Vd) / I

Where:

Vs = supply voltage
Vd = voltage drop across LED (generally 2V for regular LEDs and 1V for the clear bright ones)
I = operating current (should be in the vendors catalogue.)
