I hear most guitarists use an EQ pedal for a mid boodt during solos.

Now forgive the noob talk here.

But what exactly does that do?

I take it it changes teh EQ ever so slightly to make it suitable for solos, But other than that is ther anything else?

Chee-ars.

Well since no guitarist is gonna change their amp's settings mid song, an EQ pedal can instantly change the tone and let you cut through the mix better. Also amp's eq's are passive in which they only take away tone, EQ's are active and can boost frequencies.

If you run an EQ in front it can also alter your guitar's tone a good bit.

Apparently I'm on some list of people to listen to..?

Basically, yeah.

But some amps have active EQs.

besides changing the EQ to cut better they also work as volume boosts for solos to be louder than everything else

If you know how to set it up it will. You have to play around with the settings a lot, but you'll get what you're looking for eventually.
