I'm pretty sure this is all right
if you want to play in the C major scale it would be

W W H W W W H with each note having it's own degree or number like

C D E F G A B C (I can't get this to look right, but C would be 1, D would be 2, E would be 3, etc. etc.)

if you wanted to use a C minor scale it'd be like this

1 2 b3 4 5 b6 b7 You would just flat the 3rd and 6th notes ( drop them half a step)

ka-ching! everything you need to figure out what chords are in your key. for powerchords all you need to know is that you can use any note in the scale to make a powerchord, except the one lower than the root. so in C you cant use B (if you want to stay in key), but all the others make good powerchords.

You're right about the scales lol.

And for major keys, the chords in the keys go like this. I'll use C major for an example. The chords follow this pattern:

C major
D minor
E minor
F major
G major
A minor
B diminished

And if you are using seventh chords:

C maj7
D min7
E min7
F maj7
G7 A.K.A G dominant 7 (They are the same chord)
A min7
B min7(b5)
