what are some good exercises to build speed and skills in that department.
i have a metronome and do different chromatic exercises i just make up.
i do alot of tapping exercises.
i think its good, but to compared anyone else(shredder type)...i suck!

so ...any suggestions?

Well, i suppose you want to work on finger strength, independance and economy of motion. Combined with accuracy = speed.

^^Yes those videos got me going a lot. Maybe not to much info in them but they give you some nice starting licks that sound cool and train isolated picking motions aswell. Besides that they are funny and it's hard to watch them without running away to practise again.
