you never heard of hammer-on and pull-off? Hm....ok, let's see what we can do:

Hammer-on: hit the note on the fretboard with your left hand finger hard enough that you can hear this note without picking with your right hand. Then pull this finger off the string so that you hear another note.

Example: you wanna play the note A (5th fret, high E-string). so turn your volume up and hit this note with your i left index finger: now you hear the note A. leave the finger on the string then pull it off again and you hear: E ( high E-string)

got that?

it's just a question of practise, practise, practise. If you've never used this technique before, you probably have not enough strength in your fingers and also the right timing is very important.
So keep on working on that, you can find millions of exercises on the net for this....you will need it because it's one of the absolute essential techniques of playing the electric guitar.

more gain sounds better - yeah. but don't try to cover a bad technique with more volume or gain. that's the wrong way I think.
when you're doing it correctly you can even play it (and hear it) with a totally clean sound.

When you pull off you have to flick the string to make a sound, especially when the distance between the frets is greater. You should be able to hear it unplugged.

Or cover up incorrect technique with distortion, whatever works.

i have a DVD of AC/DC live where angus does it with alternate picking. im pretty sure it works either way. the way i do it though, i pick the main notes and pull off to get the B in between notes. it looks cooler if u dont pick it tho, but it sounds stronger if u pick it

Give 10 UGers a rope and ask them to pull. 4 will push, 1 will ask for buttsecks, 2 will tell you get an Ibanez and the last 3 will start complaining about Line6 Spiders.
