Take the wire thats that goes to the output jack, and add a SPST switch or practically any other switch and wire it up shorts it to ground.

buy a new better toggle switch? I've found that the Gibson type switches found on low end guitars are rather poor quality

If your toggle keeps on getting screwed up the do the way seljer said

Just add the two wires I've colored RED. It's as easy as that.

you just get the switch and put one wire from it to the hot wire going to the jack. and one wire going to the ground wire.
