Alright so admitidly i know absolutely nothing about shred and its a genre I rarely dip into but recently one of my friends introduced me to Racer X and gave me 7 of their albums to listen to.

Anyone else a fan?

Me. Paul Gilbert eats and digests other guitarists faster than they can play.

Only a fan of a small number of their tracks, Gilbert has much better things on the side imo.

I'm quite getting into Gilbert, tracks like Technical Difficulties and Scarified are amazing. Any other Gilbert projects you could recommend?

Umm, yeah...

All of them

His solo stuff, Guitar Wars, Mr. Big, Yellow Matter Custard, ... It's all better than most Racer X imo.

Racer X is a ****in' kick-ass band. I love them mostly cuz of Gilbert's input of course.

Personally, I like his Racer X & Mr. Big days best, but most of his material is pretty killer.
Especially "Bump Ahead" by Mr. Big, that was like the peak of their releases IMO.

Racer X are ****ing awesome........ Mr Big are good with the harmonies and basslines of Billy Sheehan doubling gilbert........ Paul Gilbert easily has the best picking technique out....
#17
The nice thing about Racer X is that they do what a lot of those so-called technique metal bands try to do these days. Racer X still eats most of these bands with ease. Peronally I like their instrumentals the most. The songs with vocals are perfect if you're working on your metal rythm playing though.

BTW I'm really curious about the new solo album PG will release soon. I only heard a low quality track so far but it sounded really driving.

Great fucking band. Although I prefer his solo stuff more. Sreet Lethal and Technical Difiiculties are my favorites.

Can you guys recomend the funnest song to play that Paul Gilbert does, and preferrably one of the faster/harder ones?

My opinion, Technical Difficulties. learn it with a friend and do the harmonies, and then when it comes to the solo, trade licks like a pair of mofos.

I prefer Paul's solo stuff to Racer X, I prefer alot of Racer X's stuff to alot of his Mr Big stuff though.

Yup, im a big fan of Paul Gilbert and Racer X, amazing guitarist and a great persona
#27
i own all of Racer x's stuff and Gilbert's solo material and id say his solo stuff is more diverse, but Racer X write the sort of riffs that seem to strike a real chord(sic) with me. Technical Difficulties is an out and out classic album.
Thank God im an atheist
#28
I love the classics obv, but king of the monsters is cool, rele good exercises in that lil ditty. Paul Gilbert in general is just brilliant, i emailed him and he sed i rocked! I wanted to cry..... so i got on a plane to japan and have been in his garden since, im writing this on a laptop as we speak.

Seriously, tho u shud listen to him all the time, itll make u a better person

"Technical Difficulties" from the album of the same title.

Just the riff is a blast to play-but it's kinda hard to keep up. (prolly cuz i down-pick the whole ****in' thing)

EDIT: oops, readin' off the first page-never mind...

I love PG and his projects although I think he could do better...

mr big - too 80's to me
racer x - I can't really get into the vocals
solo stuff - well face it, paul ain't that good of a singer sadly

I like his instrumental songs most. I heard he is going to put out an instrumental album so I'm more than pleased...

I sure hope he gets on the G3 tour

DAMNIT WHY CAN'T G3 GO ON A WORLD TOUR!?!?! That is a kickass line-up! Racer X is good, but to me the only really good part about them is Paul Gilbert. The riffs kick ass and the Racer X instrumentals are Paul's (and Bruce's) best work IMO.

Technical Difficulties is hard to harmonize lol, you need two guitarists of equal calibre. It's easy to do by yourself though. I wish I knew someone whom to harmonize with. Anyways for me:

Solo stuff > Mr. Big > Racer X (although I love all of them really)

Paul Gilbert is one of the nicest and most down to earth guitarists out there...Great guy.
Ibanez Prestige RG1570 ftw!

^^That's what makes Paul my favourite guitarist, the fact that not only does he totally own but also that he's a great person as well.
