Warning: If you are in denial of Panic at the Disco or Fall Out Boy using "stage and/or studio enhancements", then do not continue to read, it will only offend you. (yes i said "enhancements"...its like punk-pop is getting old and needs viagra)

well if you watch any of those in studio videos of Panic at the Disco! for MTV.com or AOL.com or any other live performance, there is a 100% chance the singer is lip synching, and even the guitar player pretends to be playing that little effect in the intro of "i write sins, not tragedies". I personally believe that if you are going to perform anything that is in any form related to the genre of "rock", you cant be as fake as this by lip synching to your studio filtered voice. This is something we see from Britney Spears and Ashlie Simpson, but that is expected out of their "teen pop" genre because we all know they have no talent. Should we just place "Panic" in there as well? And is this the direction that all punk-pop bands are gonna be going? Will they all be completely computer generated in the future? At least blink 182 and Green Day would really put on a show and then destroy the stage or something, or kick the **** out of a fan, but bands like Fall Out Boy and Panic at the Disco, who use an incredible amount of voice filters in studio (if you have ever wondered why the singers voices sound the same on the albums) and then go on stage, take your money, and then squeak out every line of their songs, are expected to be labeled "punk". I'm sorry, but as a fan of punk-pop music for more than half of my life, I cannot support it if it's going to go this way. Is it going to be eventually "Nick Lachey and his Band"? I think the end to a fun and entertaining genre is near.

Ok, thats my short rant for today, I have presented some facts, not insults. I would like to discuss the direction that punk-pop is going into, this is not a genre-bash and if you do not know the difference between an intelligent debate and spaming, then do not respond.

you do make a point.

i dont think they lipsync though.

but you can definatley tell the difference when they play live. it is all done in the studio.

im pretty sure they use pitch shifter and things too.

patrick stump cant sing for toffee live.

Speaking of lip-synching and Coheed, at the Coheed/A7X/18 Visions show in Pittsburgh, it was pretty obvious that 18 Visions were lip synching and playing to their cd.

im pretty sure AVA lipsynchs.

They sound EXACTLY the same live as they do in studio. Like, everything is exactly the same.

Plus, if you watch videos of them live, Tom will hold a note, and then pull his mic. away, but the note will still ring out.

just my two cents.
And if ever You come near, I will hold up high a mirror.
Lord, I could never show you anything as beautiful as You.

^If you're talking about that live video that was on Fuse I think, that was mostly a studio dub-over.

If you check some of the bootleg live videos on youtube, there's no mistaking Tom's imperfect live voice.

I'm rather impressed at his guitar-work as of late though.

And also, I think those studio videos are the same deal. Usually when bands do those AOL sessions and their music contains some electronic aspects, they dub some stuff over from the studio version of the song. So I think you're blowing it way out of proportion (thread starter).

Are you trying to say that pop-punk/emo is entering a downward spiral of lip-synching and fake gimmicks? Maybe there are a few bands like that but as far as I'm concerned, the genuine bands in the genres that I love (Circa Survive, Chiodos, Paramore, Underoath, AFI, Saves The Day, The Early November, Thursday, many many others) far out-weigh the nonsense.

Furthermore, on the recent Muchmusic video awards, Fall Out Boy played a couple of songs and the singer's voice was definitely not as bad as everyone describes it as. ? Sure, he's not perfect, but who is?
#9
Well said. There are a few bands who are being overhyped and overproduced, but there'll always be a strong cadre of bands just out of the major mainstream spotlight playing good music

If anyone needs auto-tune live it's Anthony Green.

Anyway, as much as I hate PATD, their singer is actually pretty good. The few bootleg videos I saw were pretty impressive.

I saw Eighteen Visions at Warped and the music they played sounded nothing like the music on their CD. Victim live and Black and Bruised live sounded way different than on CD. They don't lip synch.

i went to see anthony greens show on his mini tour last december and he was FLAWLESS when he sung alone to his guitar. like wow, some parts were BETTER then on the album.

that kid who said he needs an auto-tuner and then puts up P!ATD has no clue what hes talking about.

yeah, patrick pretty much suck live. on fobrock.com theres these fob facts or something and it has something like "patrick's voice on the album wasnt auto tune" or something along that line. i think theyre trying to cover it up =/

I completely agree with that. I think all of this crap about them being a manufactured blah blah blah blah etc etc is just nonsense. They play their instruments, they write their own songs, and the dude sings without fucking autotune or whatever the devil it is. Yeah sure, maybe he sounds like buddy from falloutboy, but everyone sounds at least a bit like someone else somewhere else.

I'd also like to add that I'm not defending PATD because I'm a PATD fanboy, it's because they get so much crap.

I've seen some pretty accurate FOB videos too. I suppose music is hit or miss.

I just can't stand Anthony Green. And I don't understand this obsession everyone has for him.

Basically, this is how it played out:

Some band no one had ever heard of (Saosin) put out this 5 song EP that only had one decent song on it. They had this singer, who no one had ever heard of.

So, just as this band no one had ever heard of started getting popular because of that one song, the singer quits to start a band no one has ever heard of with a bunch of other guys no one has ever heard of.

Who cares right? I mean, "Seven Years" was only just gaining in popularity. Saosin hadn't done any major touring, or released a full length album.

Well suddenly this no-name singer becomes a hot commodity with the girl-pants wearing scene boys. Here's the basic conversation:

"LOLZ, DID U HEAR ABOUT ANTHONY GREEN LEAVING SAOSIN?!"

"YEAH ROLF, I LOVED SAOSIN. THEY'LL SUCK WITHOUT HIM. DID YOU EVER HEAR THAT ONE SONG THEY DID, I FORGET THE NAME?"

"YEAH I DID, CAUSE THEY ONLY EVER DID 5 SONGS AND THEY ONLY SOLD LIKE A HUNDRED COPIES OF THAT DEMO LOLZ"

Seriously, where does this boner for Anthony Green come from?

Bless P!aTD, the only good thing about them live is the vocals. I've seen them a couple of times and on both occasions I've been shocked at how f*cking incoherant they are live. They were forever falling in and out of time with the backing track, which is rather difficult to listen to. I still enjoyed it though, obvs

Ill give them the benefit of the doubt, since they do use a lot of reverb/echo effects, which could be what you are talking about. But I think they do have the album playing through the speakers in the background, which is lame.

Exactly. On the thin surface of any genre there are bad musicians that give a negative image to the whole genre (hip hop is the most glaring example). But there will always be genuine musicians who have real talent. MTV isnt going to destroy musicm, despite its best efforts.
#30
Yeah in my opinion, MTV isnt as bad as it once was. I mean yeah, it's terrible, and it's all about reality shows and BS, but the music they have to offer (when they're actually offering music) is subtantially better than it was IMO.
#31
Im not saying the music isnt bad, Im saying that no matter how horrible it gets, there will always still be good music that flies under the radar, which is only picked up by true music fans.

It may be rather easy, but he plays the riffs to The Adventure really well live. I really think he's tightened up a bunch.
